Reluctant to download W10
Comments
-
            I downloaded .ISO last night.
I am currently running Windows 7 on Dell Optiplex 9020 (i7).
I want to test the new windows. But I am also little reluctant to try it on my new machine.
I have however Shuttle Cube lying around. But I need a cable VGA to HDMI as my Dell monitors only have HDMI and DPort.
Is Win 10 userfriendly ?
I did not like Windows 8 AT ALL.

If the laptop came with Windows 7 from the manufacturer, then there may be a utility to create recovery disks, which would probably have the manufacturer's name.re. Recovery disks: My laptop didn't have a W7 installation disk. I thought that there was a way of 'downloading' W7 to DVD's but now that i have looked more closely, it just seems to be the creation of a systems repair disk. Where on my laptop would i find the recovery disk option or is that what is meant by systems repair? My Windows 7 manual assumes that I have an installation disk available.
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question!
So if it's a Dell, for example, you might try searching (from the start menu) for "Dell" programs , and see if there's the name of a utility related to recovery or backup.
There may not be one though - I don't think manufacturers were/are consistent on this.0 -

No it is an HP not Dell. My previous Dell did have an installation disk ( for Windows XP). I have now set up a system repair disk but I am not sure how much that can do.0 -

Sending you a PM. What's the full model number?
Meanwhile, look here for a guide to creating your Recovery Discs. Choose the option for Recovery Disc Creation.0 -

Am I being over cautious? I have a fairly old laptop (about 6 years) with W7. It is currently working OK and I am not very technically minded/confident. I am tempted to ignore W10 until I need to replace my current one. I am going to back up my documents again today (done reasonably regularly) and try to create W7 back up disks as I never got an installation disk for W7. I know that I should have done that long ago but kept putting it off after my attempt to download to a USB failed.
Nope, definitely nope. When it comes to windows update, you can not be too cautious since a new thing doesn't mean a good one. Never will I update to Windows 8 until W8 becomes good enough.Men talk of killing time, while time quietly kills them.
