As others have said adding Class 1 business cover will cost very little extra. When I was last renewing, it was about a fiver on my premium. Not really worth plotting a fraud to avoid!

A company can control the condition of employee's vehicles that are covered by the firm's insurance for business use.
They can insist on the car passing an annual inspection prior to it's details being added to the policy.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

I'm with Direct Line and when I had the renewal through, I phoned to cancel the automatic renewal as I intended to go via TCB to get £57 back.

The lady I spoke to told me that by allowing the auto-renwal, I would loose the business use part of the policy (they don't tell you this in the literature), but by cancelling auto-renwal and renewing manually, I would get business miles cover.

Just got my renewal through this week and it is still there* for both of us.

    Thats another thing to check,
make sure the business covers all potential business users of the vehicle.

    * SDP and use in conection with B (no mention of comuting)

Also looks like DL have dropped admin fees handy if you may need to make amendements, still have cancellation fee upto £47.70.

Disgraceful if true. This goes against the very definition of 'renewal' - which is 'same again'.

I'm a teacher and have to have business use on my insurance so I am covered when I go on a course that isn't based at our school.

I imagine that you don't have to provide a car for your work so you could always stipulate they provide a hire car or use public transport.
  • I do just under 10k miles for work between different sites.
The company used to provide cars for those users who qualified by yearly mileage.

Then we were taking over by another company, and the policy changed putting the onus on to the driver. So it's Business class insurance for me, although for some of the pen pushers from head office they use public transport to attend different site meetings.

    So pay the cover.
