business use? Surely not!

I had business use for my car and did in excess of 30k business miles a year but it only added about £10 to my policy. I believe it's more if you are carrying business stock or equipment.0

ok, pretty unanimous, thanks for the quick replies.
Re the wording of the policy then I do only have one permanent place of work, one office with my desk, the others are as I said just ad-hoc for meetings/training. This day and age I'm sure there are millions of people in the same boat.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

thought I should get this sorted, as one of the other posters said, don't want to give them any room to wriggle out of should I need to claim!! Just I so begrudge giving money to insurance companies, I hate it!
Guy I spoke to was very understanding, says he has to pay it himself as maybe once or twice a year he has to cover another branch! Was £21 extra for the year.0 -
It will also cover you if you nip out to the shops during the day because you've run out of teabags.
Any accident on a weekday, when they expect the car to be safely off the road whilst you toil ceaselessly in your windowless office is going to attract questions. (I wouldn't put it past them to check if you really were on a days holiday when you have an accident at 11 o'clock if that is what you tell them)
You've done the right thing getting the cover, I always specify business use.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Yep, that's right.
When I first added it (years ago), it cost another tenner.
The only other way is, could you use a company vehicle for the trip?Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
Next time you renew just add business use when you go to the comparison sites ... I can't say I've noticed the difference in price.0

It is business use.
For me the difference between SDP&C and Business Class 1 is £0
The "problem" is that if you add it mid year then its a mid term adjustment and you can be hit with a fee of up to £50 (or more possibly) but that is an admin fee rather than additional premium.0 -
I'm the same, however if you did have a crash then surely you we on your way to Tesco's?
Considering traffic police are not stupid and the first question they generally ask is where you are driving to that's not good advice. If you through in they tend to thoroughly investigate more serious accidents there's a good chance they would find your lie out in the event of a serious accident.
Not being covered for the use your using the vehicle for at the time of an accident leaves you truely uninsured. Your Insurers are entitled to wash their hands of you leaving the MIB to pay the claim and they pursue you for their outlay0 -

The MIB wouldn't pay in such circumstances. The op's own insurance would cover third party risks.0 -
Hi,
I have one permanent place of work but my company does have several other offices. Once in a blue moon I have to go to one of those sites, for a meeting or training session, but it really is rare, probably doesn't amount to even once a month over the last couple of years. Now my insurance company have said I need to pay a extra premium to cover me for "business use" in addition to commuting!!
Surely this can't be right? The odd trip to a different office (still the same company) doesn't make for business use does it?
thanks
A
Business use adds little or nothing unless your business is delivering pizza etc.0
