If you suspect that Tesco have charged you incorrectly for an item, DON'T query the price until after the transaction is complete. If they are wrong, they will refund you the money AND give you the item free.
I queried the price of a DAB radio, advertised at £39 but came through till at £45, they changed it, but then said that if I hadn't questioned it until after I'd paid, I'd have been given it free. Annoying or what!!0 -
May have already been posted in this thread .... but Debenhams mark their price tages with a coloured sticker dot if this item is to be reduced in the next sale.
Different colours are for different reductions (30%, 50% or 70% off).0 -
another bug bear with debenhams is that they never ask or remind you for the nectar card and when you remember you cant get the points put on once the transactions been made. not very fair now is it !!!!!:mad:0

In reply to Irishwench, who was confused by my original comments at the very start of this thread about the lack of debenhams vouchers in Nectar maililings...
I can see how you have become confused, but remember this thread has been running soooo long! My original post was in May 2005, and my information was from a very good source at the company which runs Nectar.
That was 14 months ago. Debenhams haven't pulled out of Nectar, and have recently started issuing vouchers again in the mailings. But as Lally rightly points out, the staff STILL don't ask you for your card.
The conclusion? Debs wants to use Nectar as a way of getting you into the store, but doesn't want to give you the reward points if doesn't have to i.e. if you're there already...We are QPR, say we are QPR!0 -
others have mentioned being nice to assistants in shops - I just wanted to remind everyone
Having worked in the service industry for some time then if anyone calls up and are nasty then chances are you'll get the bare minimum from me. If you're nice and don't shout and don't try to blame my staff for something that is obviously your fault then I'm 99% more likely to extend a license as a goodwill etc. And schhhh my finger sometimes slip and I mistype things like dates... 2006 could be 2007
When I worked for HP I could waiver the call out charge for engineers if I felt it was justified... anyone shouting and being nasty NEVER had it waivered... people phoning up either really polite or obviously distressed got the charge waivered
Same thing with O2 whom I have had a mobile with for about 8 years now - I call - I'm nice - I ask for best offer - I explain I can get cheaper and give example - they say we can't match - I say so sorry to hear it, I'd like to cancel then - I get put through to cancellations and the nicer I am the more freebies and extra texts and minutes I getHaven't paid for mobile phone insurance for years - keep getting it free and I have a "special discount" on all my bills
Oh and free or hugely discounted upgrades

Thanks for clarifying superhoop - you're right, the thread has gone on for ages, and with no index etc, it's all a bit
Guess the key is make sure you get your card out - don't let them get away with pulling the wool over your eyes!! :rotfl:

IF YOU'RE SKINT......
Do I need it? Can I afford it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?
IF YOU'RE NOT SKINT......
Will I use it? Is it worth it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?0 -
If you are a contact lense wearer with the Dolland & Aitchisons opticians contact lenses by post scheme, its worth knowing that the staff are allowed to offer a discounted price on the most common ranges to keep a customer. If you are already with them its definately worth givin it a try - NB they aren't the cheapest to start with .:j0

Just a quick one
Next Directory, when there is a sale on, call them a few days before hand and put your order in, tell them someone offered to take your order early but hasn't called you back! worked a treat and saves being disappointed.0 -
Let me tell you about an experience with a shop, not just any shop.
3 Years ago my friend from upstairs came down, mortified. She had just heated a veggie lasagne, ate a bit and realised it was meat.
In her excitement she knocked the lasagne over the floor and up my john lewis curtain (JUST THE ONE SIDE).
I wrote to the shop and asked for a replacement curtain and £50.00 compo for my friend. I got a reply back saying to tell them how much it would be and they would re-imburse me.It included £100.00 in vouchers.
John Lewis came round, done a quote for £300.00. I sent this to M&S. Somehow it got intoa queue and I then had to take the meaty dish to the store for checking.
After a week or so, i was impatient and demanded the store pay me from the till. They invited me down and gave me £300.
I paid JL £150.00 for the curtain (which i shrunk trying to clean it) and kept the other £150.00
Then, lo and behold a cheque comes for £300.00. I banked it.
That was years ago, never did i get a "can I have the money back" letter and I was £550.00 up on the £2.99 dinner.

I recently bought a new harddrive in PC world and was told confidentially by the salesman that if the ticket price ends in 97p (as in £234.97) it means the item is a clearance line, if it ends in 98p it is due to be a clearance line shortly and if it ends in 99p it is current up to date stock. Worth knowing don't you think?0
