I haven't ever worked in Halfords / Motor World, but what I am about to say is common sense which I have seen proof of first hand.

Motorworld and Halfords might be convienient but the common sense bit is SHOP AROUND.

Have a search on yell.com or somewhere like that to find your local Motor Factors (just search for "Motor Factors" and the area you live in. You might have to go to the back end of some trading estate and you might not get nice POS, in fact you will probably just get a counter service. But these guys know their stuff, are 99% friendly and I guarantee they will be cheaper than Halfords / Motorworld.

    Examples:

Car battery for gf's car: Halfords £60, Motorworld £62, local Motor Factor £18 + VAT!!!

Oil Filter for my car: Halfords and Motor World approx £12 local motor factor £2.26 + VAT!!!

New numberplates for my car: Halfords price £13.99 EACH!!!! local motor factor £10 for both!!!!

The list is endless, so don't be taken for a mug!!!!

Also, get a Haynes manual (you can buy this from Halfords, price is quite similar from anywhere!) - they cost about £15 but even if you are clueless about mechanics, this book will show you how to do simple stuff like change your oil, how to do pre MOT tests, what weekly checks to do, all stuff that can save you masses of money and easily write off the cost of the book itself!!!

Or just order & borrow it for FREE from your local library whenever you need it!

You may as well - as you've effectively paid for it already in your council tax!

    Vue Cinema
Cinema food is greatly over-priced, as this is where theatres make their profits--not with the films (whose money actually goes to their distributors).

i used to work in vue cinemas before it became vue, when it was warner village, and that was 4 years ago, however if you spill your drink or popcorn, tell the staff and you can get it refilled!! you need to show the staff where it was split so they can clean up and see that you did indeed lose most of your food, but they still refill this at my local vue!

  • i used to be a mcdonald's floor manager and have some advice for complaining if your food isnt right:

a floor manger is allowed to refund your meal up to £5 and replace it and give you a desert so ask for this

a shift manager is allowed to do teh same, but a refund of up to £10

the store manager can do unlimited refunds plus all of the other stuff and can also issue vouchers of unlimited amounts to use on another ocassion

if you have ordered several meals and one isnt right, your entire order can be replaced so one person isnt left waiting whilst everyone else eats.

Now is this current for any McDonalds? Or just the franchise/company area where you worked? When I worked for McD's (7 years ago) some Floor managers weren't able to handle refunds at all, others could refund some/all of meal where appropriate. Shift managers had carte blanche on how to handle complaints. This applied to 4 stores I worked in in the north east and were all company stores. 2 of them later became franchises (after I left.)

I bought a 20gb ipod in August 2005 costing £175. Now broken and sales person offered to exchange, He then said he had not got any 20gb ones as they had been discontinued. It turns out that the nearest they have to mine is a 30gbte one costing £219. So instead of giving me the £219 one he now wants to give me my £175 back. But i want the £219 ipod. What are my rights?
I believe they can either offer to repair, exchange or refund. They can't exchange as the product has been discontinued. It looks like your only option is the refund. Unless you want to stump up the £44 difference in value.

    GETTING A CHEAPER NEW CAR!!!!!!

I bought my Renault Megane in Sep 2004 (54plate). It retailed at £13,910 without extras etc. I played 2 garages off against each other and ended up getting it for £10,000 including metallic paint worth £325!!! So my advice is NEVER EVER pay the price in the book for a car....do some real haggling!!!

    I intend to again!!!

my coffee lid was not put on properly by the girl who served me at the drive through...as i sat in the layby to wait for my girls happy meal..(always asks them to put lettuce and tomato in her cheese burger its a lil wait but least its guaranteed freshly made) as i go to ad sugur and milk to it the whole big cup of coffee spilt all over my passenger seat....was fuming...was there half an hour trying to mop up as much as i can, food got cold so that had to be exchanged...any way to cut a long story short i was given the area manager's mobile to complain and after speaking to him he has agreed to cover the cost of a full valet along with vouchers for my next visit... wont be buying coffee from mcdonalds again!!
  • its not advertised in kfc any more...but its still available for £1.99 its called a mini variety meal which consists of 1 piece of chicken, two hot wings and a regular fries plus if you asked them to 'go large' and pay an extra 30p you can get either an extra regular fries or a large fries... its great for sharing with my lil one as she is not keen on the hot wings!!

I have just read the last post and it reminded me of asda, but I think I also need to post elsewhere too.

What happened to us was really weird, or so we thought with the lack of asda staff knowledge , to our embarrassment.

We went to buy petrol in the express lane. My husband put in his co card and immediately a receipt was produced. Most confusing, the cc no ended in the same 4 digits, but the time and pump were different!!!

We went and asked for help immediately, we were concerned that we would be charged for petrol that we had not bought. The lady was foreign and unable to help. We had to be insistent, she didn't understand the problem and so didn't really care!!!!!! S0 she said she would get someone to call us in a couple of days (weekend!!), we asked her to at least be witness to the fact that our tank was empty!! She didn't understand!!! We had to explain that she should come and look at our petrol gage!!! She still didn't understand!!

So we (having asked before) now insisted on speaking to someone in authority.
Eventually someone did come to see us
    (15 mins later - )
    15-20 MINS trying to explain
    15 mins waiting for assistance
20 mins explaining again and giving details

ALMOST 1 HR WASTED!!! ON A SUNDAY!!! ALL SHOPS NOW CLOSED!!! WE ONLY CALLED IN FOR PETROL!!!!!!!!!

we had plans, it was sunday early closing!! forget any other shopping!!THANKS ASDA!!!!!!!!!!
and promised to get back to us, no help other than taking note of our empty petrol tank!!

Noone got back to us then or following 2 other letters!!!

I now know what happened, but Asda didn't have the decency to reply.

Basically, my husbands card was a co card and someone else had used their card earlier that day!!! Different card, but same account!!

My husbands co is a partnership!! What happens with larger firms??

Why did Asda not have the courtesy to reply??

I felt like a thief!! We were asked questions about moving our car from one pump to another etc (we pointed out the time difference!!)

I have never felt like this ever and to make matters worse they never replied!!

Obviously I am very very annoyed!!!!!!!!!!!
