corsa-i-can wrote:most ppl probably know this but the amount of ppl that dont i see everyday is massive
when items are reduced at somerfiled the buy one get one free still works, as long as there is 2 of them obviosly lol
And here is a sneaky trick being done at the Kensington Somerfield ( don't know about other Somerfields ). It seems that the two for the price of one, reduced prices etc are only for Somerfield cardholders. So passers by or non card holders who see a bargain aren't necessarily getting one, please check your till recepts. I don't know if this is a trading standards violition- I will check. :mad:0 -
i am not sure how this worked but it goes like this... i bought a new apple power book .. discounted to £1200 from £1500 from pc world..
when i tried to buy the salesperson tried to sell me insurance cover.. he told me mac charge £400.00 for 3 year cover.. but they do a deal of £250 ish.. i said i couldnt really afford that and i didnt want to find i couldnt pay it off in 6 months. i was buying the mac on 6 month interest free credit. but somehow the salesman offered me to pay the insurance on my credit card.. he said if i took the insurance he would do a further discount and he would add it as insurance on my credit card so i would only have £800 to pay in 6 months on the interest free. i decided that this appeared to be a god send and agreed with a little haggling. when i got home i cancelled the insurance which was now somehow charged to my credit card at £400.00 therefore my mac was only £800 and yes i paid it off in the six months..this may seem a little dishonest but he was pushy and i had said i did not want insurance.... he didnt realise what he was doing and i still havent quite worked out how it happened but it may be worth working it out and seeing if yuor pushy salesman needs teaching a lesson.. did he care about me no he wanted the commission...0 -
Oakley sunglasses have a 100% mark up. If the glasses are selling for £139.99 it means the cost price is £69.99. Not so much money saving but certainly room for a discount I think! My mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely0

Yes you have to sign up to their loyal -shopper 'Saver' scheme, this gives you a card, a key-fob and entitles you to certain discounts. In our Somerfield, those prices are cleared marked with a yellow sign saying 'Saver card discount' or words to that effect.
But if you don't want to sign up, you could mention that you'd left your card at home as the manager's have discretion to swipe their card through the till. More likely to be successful if the shop isn't busy.:)0 -
Hi,
I got a good deal from O2 the other month.
I have two contracts with them for 200 cross net minutes. I bought a new phone from Vodaphone and rang up O2 to cancel the contracts. They put me through to their retention department. The woman on the other end of the phone said that if I keep the contracts on for 12 months but at a reduced rate of £6 per month for 20 crossnet minutes and 20 texts that she would credit both accounts with £80. That is a profit of £8 per account. I then said that one of the phones does not work. So she offered me a brand Sony Erricson K700i.
Now thats what I call a bargain.
I don't know if they still have this offer but I believe they expect you to give the phone to your children who will run up a massive bill.0 -
I bought a brand new car last year from a national dealer. They wouldn't budge on the £12,000 asking price, but I did get a DVD player for the front room, a massive boquet of flowers for the wife, mats for the car floor, full tank of diesel (after saying that you don't buy a telly nowadays without a plug for it to work, so why should I buy a car with no fuel in!!!) and free 'gap insurance'.
Ok the DVD player wasn't a top of the range one but it saved my buying one myself. The sales manager said his hands were tied and couldn't knock any off of the asking price but could 'write a few things' to other sales codes.0 -

You actually don't have to register. As I know someone who has not. And up to about 3/4 weeks ago they where still using the card and getting the discounts. They picked the card up when the first came out.
You can use the card straight away anyway.

I have Just Purchased Breakdown recovery with the RAC. Whilst chatting to the operator I mentioned that I had a Code to get 20% off (WILKIN if you are interested from the wilkinson store) I then mentioned that I work for the NHS do I get money off for that
answer Yes you do but it would only be 15%
It makes me wonder what else I can get money off of for working for the NHS. However it seems better to shop in wilko's

Trollydolly wrote:Also when i was at TC the foreign exchange used to charge 2% on travellers cheques, always tell them that the post office have offered you 1% commission on travellers cheques or sometimes you can get away with 0% on currency cheques (not sterling). Also say the post office are doing 0% on currency and they will always price match it.
Shopping around for currency is always wise, particularly for less readily available currencies. Last year, when going to Croatia, I went to the Co-op Travel Shop Currency Exchange in Leeds to find out their rates on Croatian Kuna (Kn). They offered 9.71 Kn/£ commission free but said they'd match any rate in the local area. After a couple of hours wandering the town centre I had found another travel agent offering 10.61 Kn/£ at 2% commission. I took this info back to the Co-op and duly got 10.61 Kn/£ at 0% commission - a massive 9.3% bonus on £500 worth of Kuna!
While in Croatia I couldn't help wondering what rate the Co-op would buy back the Kuna at (again, this was commission free) and whether it would be feasible, through shopping around, to buy currency from them at a higher rate than they would buy it back from me at, hence enabling me to make an instant profit on any cash I exchanged by exchanging it right back again. I never properly researched this, though, and doubt they'd be quite so stupid. However, if anyone else has noticed such a loophole, I (and I'm sure a lot of other people!) would be curious of their results.0
