A friend works in Thomas Cook and told me they charge basically what they want on discounted hols. Apparently one guy paid nearly £500 over the odds for a holiday. Will I get in trouble posting this .

There is no doubt that if you don't ask for discount in a travel agents you probably won't be offered it.

These products are usually on yellow tickets and can sometimes be the best deals in the store, a 98,88 or 78 means that the manufacturer has discontinued the product so this can mean that theres a big reduction but plenty of stock.

If its a .97, 87 or 77p on the end then this is usually clearence, depending on the manager of that store, ask for discount, they will usually give at least another 10% as you are doing them a favour by buying it. :D

I notice a few .89's on the web site - what does this mean?

I had a washer dryer which I had for approx. 3 years with an extended warranty. It kept on breaking and I got fed up with waiting 2 weeks to get it fixed and not being able to do any washing then having to take a half day from work to get it fixed only for it too break after another month. I complained to the warranty people and was told very rudely that there was nothing they could do. I wrote 1 letter to Hoover and they phoned up and asked when I wanted the new one delivered! They agreed with me that it was not reasonable for a washer dryer to keep breaking so often even after 3 years.
I wrote to Hotpoint the same time I posted this thread, as yet I have not had a reply.

In victoria wine/threshers/wine rack they have a wine promise that says if you dont like the bottle you can take it back no quibble. Very few people actually use this, but having worked there it is the case. So if you really dont like a bottle you bought from there, dont drink it - take it back!

Just out of curiosity what do they do with the wine you return??

    LOL!! :rotfl:
  • this might be not be applicable to this thread but do move it if need be....do you not find it annoying when your in a shop and your buying numerous items..whether it be in a clothes shop or grocers.... when they tap tap tap on the til there is no til display of what your getting charged per each item .....what do you guys think?

I think there is a deliberate policy of doing this and I have had this experience of having been overcharged and then having to go back to get refunds. So if I did not check, then the shop wins. According to Trading standards ( I have checked this several times ), they don't have to sell you at the price quoted, in fact they don't even have to sell you anything at all if they like ! So basically if you don't check immediately and also the shop manager is not amenable, then you won't get any change back.

This is probably an old one for all you seasoned money savers but I used to work in Tescos, and found out that you can hand over magazine/newspaper coupons for money off products without actually buying the product and the coupons will still be deducted off your bill total. Don't try it with Tesco own/clubcard vouchers though since the tills will pick those up.

Yes, but now they check items on the receipt which makes it difficult to put these coupons through ! As for Boots, forget using coupons in this way. They are extremely fastidious about checking each item against coupons and expiry dates etc.
