Why not? I've bought them every week for years and have never had a problem.

Every time we buy them they are brown within a day or two. Same thing happened to my Mum and Sister.

I guess it must be store dependent then. Mine pretty much always last a week.

I wonder if aldi use less chemicals to preserve the fruit. When I used to have an allotment I'd pick strawberries and they'd be in the fridge within an hour, and they'd never last a week. Whereas the ones I buy from tesco do, despite the fact that they are already probably at least a couple of days old when I buy them. Just what are they doing to the tesco ones?

It's quite likely that the suppliers use less preservatives and therefore charge less but it is more likely to be down to the variety the commercial growers use.
Some home-grown produce I can beat the supermarkets with, especially mangetout which are almost invariably stringy when bought.
The only thing that is constant is change.

I've just finished some strawberries from Aldi that i bought last Thursday. I keep them in the fridge. I also buy bananas every week and have never had a problem. I buy them as green as possible as i always have some in my fruit bowl ready to eat.

I bought a packet of the nectarines on Friday. They felt a little firm but after a couple of days in the fruit bowl they were perfect for eating. Lovely and juicy.

I bought nectarines that were very firm so I left them to ripen. When I next checked a couple of days later they had gone from unripe to mouldy. No doubt there was a moment when they would have been excellent but my timing to eat an entire punnet of nectarines on my own is never going to be that good. Over half of the fruit ended up in the bin. This has happened before with ALDI but never with ASDA. Lesson learned!

I've had nectarines this week - I kept a couple in the fridge and took them out when the other two had ripened. I always buy green bananas which last for the week too.

I wonder if it depends on which day you shop versus the delivery days at the stores?

I have read elsewhere when this topic came up before to explain why Aldi fruit doesn't seem to last. The major supermarkets keep a lot of fruit and veg chilled before it ends up on the shelf to extend the lifespan, whereas Aldi have limited chilling capability to reduce costs.

That explains a lot ;) Aldi save money in various ways.

I shop at Aldi and Sainsburys. OH doesn't rate Aldi's satsumas but otherwise he likes their apples and grapes, and we have their cherry tomatoes and cucumbers.

The trouble I have found with my local Sainsbury's is they do keep their fruit and veg chilled. But I find their food goes off quicker than Aldi's.

Had cucumbers go to mush within 4 days and bananas go black and mushy within 3 days.
