in Credit cards
Just got my Clarity card in the post this morning and was jusg wondering whether or not Halifax still offer £5 cashback if you spend £300 in the previous month? I can't see anything about it on their site, nor in the documents that came with the card, but I know I've seen it mentioned on the forums quite often... thanks.

I've had it applied to my credit card for the two months that I've had it. I don't hold a Halifax current account.0

Terms and Conditions:11. REWARD PAYMENT
11.1 - If you meet the requirements set out in condition 11.2, then for any statement period in which you:-
(a) make at least £300 of Purchases (once any Purchases refunded in that period have beend deducted);
(b) stay within your credit limit; and
(c) make your minimum monthly payment;
you will qualify for a £5 credit to your account in the following month. The credit will not be treated as a payment to your account under these conditions.
11.2 - To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:-
(a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
(b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
(c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account.
If you didn't meet the conditions in 11.2 when you applied for the card you probably won't get the fiver.0 -
I definitely never had a Halifax account when I applied for the card and I've had the £5 credit in the last two months (only got the card in April and only had 2 statements thus far.0

The only card available now on the Halifax website seems to be the Clarity card, not the Clarity Reward card (both are blue and neither have the words, 'Clarity' or 'Reward' on them. How's that for clarity?).
They both have the excellent rates for transactions in foreign currency, but as I understand it only the old Clarity Reward card had the monthly fiver (and I did think, as SnowTiger said, that you needed a current account to qualify for the payment). Only one way to find out - spend over £300 for the next couple of months and see what happens.0 -

Reading the messages posted here it appears that some people who should get the reward didn't and some who shouldn't do.
IIRC someone mention that after the first month they called Halifax to ask where their reward was and it was added to their account.0 -

I had to phone after a month or so for the first fiver which was added manually by the custeromer service chappie. No problems since.

I've just qualified for the first time after changing my current account type and didn't get the cashback - my Clarity pre-dates my change of a standard current to a reward current account. (The current account number and sort code did not change when i "upgraded".) I said I'd expected to get it according to the T&Cs and was paid a £5 goodwill gesture but not changed to the Reward Clarity. I was told this was a different product. I politely insisted it was the same card as my T&Cs mentioned it, and asked how I could get it enabled. I was told it would have to be a separate application, so further insisted my T&Cs seemed to suggest I qualified - after being put on hold for a while I was told a form had been filled in and I would get the reward next month. If not I'd have asked to be changed to the other product - even though on my previous call to change to it I was told there was only one product and you either qualify or don't.
My suspicion is that this is badly framed and there's a good chance you can talk the call centre in to having the reward enabled on your account by being insistent but polite, but there's no real "official" way to qualify if you didn't on the date you opened the Clarity. The T&Cs can certainly be read that way, but there's not a lot of clarity in them...0 -
This post is not strictly to do with the fiver bonus -
I have just opened a Halifax Current Account, and opened a Clarity Credit Card account. This was primarily to get the best exchange rate when buying USD currency. BUT, I don't see how I can get the best rates shown - the Halifax Travel bureau gives very poor rates.
Sure, I can buy on a Debit Card through, say, Moneycorp, but I want to get the best rates available.
This may be a very naïve question, but I would very much like to have someone explain the procedure of how to buy USD cash, delivered to a UK address, with the Clartiy crad.

that is not what the card is recommended for - it is for using overseas, either spending on the card or withdrawing from the cash machine there
probably best starting here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/travel-credit-cards0 -
That is very helpful - it was certainly not made clear to me when I took it out.
Many Thanks
