Halifax Mastercard - £5 Reward Query

ive recently got myself one of these cards which i *think* is the one that gives you £5 for spending over £300 in a month (provided you pay £1k into the Rewards Current a/c etc etc).

ive just had my first months statement which is over the £300 threshold. my question is, when and where does the £5 credit appear on the account, and what does it look like on the online banking? does it show as a credit, in the same way that a refund would?

im just having a nagging doubt that i may have applied for the wrong credit card (doh!) - before i go and spend another £300 i want to make sure im gonna get my fiver for it!

In my experience, the £5 reward appears in your account onscreen 2 to 3 days after the statement has been produced which shows the £300+ spend.

    Looks like
    cashback reward £5.00CR

You should see it on your next statement.
With me it isn't posted until 3 weeks after my statement date but is dated 3 or so days later than the statement date.
    Labled as CASHBACK REWARD.

They haven't offered the Halifax Reward Mastercard for quite a while so if you took out the card recently, it's unlikely to be the reward card.

Probably a standard Clarity card. Reward conditions in section 11.

I am i the same position as OP. Just wondered wether first "minimum payment” needs to be made before the reward is triggered. (condition 11.1.c) I will keep an eye on this post and update as and when.
  • Apparently you have to call up nowadays and ask them to activate the reward portion of the Clarity card. So long as you then charge £300 to it in a statement month, and pay £1k into a Reward CA, it'll show up on the NEXT statement. If it doesn't, contact Halifax. It didn't show up on mine, they fixed the error and gave me £5 to say sorry.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Is this true? I *thought* I had a Halifax Reward Mastercard (and was told so by staff, on multiple occasions) that this was the case.

On several occasions when I believed I would have received £5 and didn't, I called them to register a complaint. Got a call from Halifax saying "You don't have a Reward card and you can't have one. Sorry you were misinformed."

But good luck, let us know how you get on.
  • Here's a page from a leaflet that I got with my new Clarity card recently.

The rules for the reward are printed near the middle. I applied in-branch and was definitely told that it still applied.

  • I signed up to the clarity credit card about 5-6 months ago and I get the £5 reward whenever i spend over £300. I didn't have to do anything other than sign up for the credit card online (I was already a reward current account customer, however). The reward appears on your account as a credit (just like it does in your reward current account) a few days after you pay the statement.

They are definitely still doing it, it just doesn't seem to be heavily advertised. I didn't have to 'activate' anything either.
  • Sorry for delay in coming back.

I phoned up the Halifax to check about activating the £5 reward thing - the lady didnt actually say if this was in fact necessary but after putting me on hold for a minute came back and said my account was all set up correctly to get the reward. I think from memory she said it would appear as a credit on the 27th of the month. However in reality it was actually a couple of days later. Not bothered by that in the slightest though, just glad to receive it !

Usually shows up on the first working day of the month, a month AFTER your statement month that qualified for the reward.
