I bought a 2.5 year old E class as Approved Used. What the dealer did was to MOT the car on the delivery date even though one was not necessary legally.
With MB, service history is kept n a computer not stamped in a book. You can ask for the print outs to demonstrate service history.0 -
I would be far more bothered about no service history on a 61 plate Merc myself. Doesn't say 'reputable dealer' to me, but then if a buyer doesn't question that then.....
OP should have checked first registration date which will be clearly noted on the V5C, then MOT is 3 years after that (soon to change to 4).0 -
But you have suffered no loss whatsoever as a result (i.e. you have not been prosecuted). So a free MOT, or payment for getting it MOT'd elsewhere, is all you can expect. Maybe plus a small goodwill payment for the inconvenience, say £50?
It's not your 'fault' that you have been driving it without an MOT, but it remains your responsibility, as you failed to check the paperwork. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I'm not sure that's right, haven't I seen on here previously that if you are late getting your MoT they backdate it to the date it was due to be given? Mind you, I could be mixing this up with something else...
No, it's 12 months from the date it passes, unless there's already a ticket on the car.0 -

Your post seem to verge on saying it's the OP's fault for believing the salesman, why wouldn't he, they supplied some sort of paperwork saying the car didn't need a MOT until December 2015, it's quite reasonable to assume that meant they MOT'd it which would be standard practice unless it's been done recently, I've never bought a second hand car from a dealer that hasn't been given a 12 month MOT before leaving the forecourt.
But if a driver is unable to tell if they need an MOT for their car and when it needs one then they shouldn't really be on the road.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
It's true that's it's serious. Have you ever bought a car under 3 years old?

Like I said, the document Mercedes gave me clearly showed end date of MOT - Dec 2015
I am not allowed to upload a picture due to new user but I will be happy to share it with anyone who thinks I am too foolish to even drive.0 -

What document?
Is it the mot receipt, sales invoice or a random piece of paper?0 -
Have you spoken to the dealer who sold you the car or arranged a test yet?0
