Single Mattress

Hi,

any advice on how to choose a good single mattress? There are so many reviews out there I am feeling slightly lost...

I understand a memory foam mattress can get very hot and I have heard latex are very firm so I am inclined to avoid these.

The last one I bought was a non-turn with specific area lower back support and I think that might have been a mistake as the sagging is where the support area is supposed to be and although I have tried turning it both ways as a temporary measure it is still rather uncomfortable whichever I try.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Memory foam can be warm but latex isn't very firm. Do you sleep on your side/back/front? Are you heavy/light? What's your budget?

    Hi,

I usually sleep on my side unless I have a cold or am not feeling well then it is likely to be on my back. I would say I am light/medium weight (and rather short if that makes a difference, 4ft 10/4ft 11). I was hoping to spend less than £200 although I would look at more if I was buying a divan set with base (2 drawers) and it was a good buy and likely to last 8-10 years.

    Thanks for your help

I like my latex mattress as it is cool and fairly firm (my old foam mattress was getting a bit saggy after 10 years use) but latex is not a cheap option!

The way I look at it - take a typical car that is used perhaps an hour a day and compare it with a mattress that is used 7 or 8 hours per day - which product do people spend more money on?

I prefer wood slatted bases as they give good ventilation & support but make sure the gaps between the slats is not too wide - about 5 to 6 cm is ideal.

I'd suggest a medium pocket sprung mattress. For £200 you should be able to get one with at least 1000 springs and have money to spare.
