K800i Dual Sims

Hi there,

I'm looking for a Dual Sim card for my Sony Ericsson K800i. I bought one of eBay which turned out to be far too big and impossible to install for the quite small battery/sim cavity at the back of this phone.

Does anybody know of anywhere reliable that would sell one? Ideally without cutting my sims, and even more ideally with a software switchover instead of turning on and off?

If not, it's nearly time to upgrade anyway so can anybody recommend a phone (I prefer SE's) that would easily support this feature?

Cheers guys.... (and girls!)

  • Sorry to bump this! But it's on page 3 and I'd hate for one of you helpful people to have not ventured that far

might I ask which one you have bought? Give ebay a search for 'stk dual' buy one of those.

They are quite good and no need to restart the phone. but does not work with 3g sims! no matter what they say.

    I bought this one:

My own fault through a lack of understanding my mobile phone - I thought it was a K750 which is listed as compatible but it turns out to be a K800 which is not listed.

Next (silly) question is - how will I know if I'm 2G or 3G? The SIMs I want to run are Vodafone (Contract) and Virgin (PAYG) - is that enough info for me to know if they're 2G or 3G?

Also - the card you recommend requires cutting. I'm incredibly clumsy and the least dextrous person you could ever meet. Is this a hard job?

Yes they are OK, the problem with 3 simcards is they specifically make their simcards NOT TO work in normal 2g phones because using 2g network costs them more.

But the rest of the networks don't care if you use 3g or not. Hence their sims are both 2g and 3g compatible and so work with these dual sims.
  • these dual sim adaptors seem to be something of a lottery, I purchased one previously for my Nokia phones and once got it working with one phone for a few minutes, but that was about the 3rd nokia that I tried, and I'd also tried about 4 different sims. Also they seem a little flimsy, either that or they involve cutting

I wonder if something like this would be a better solution:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-in-1-SIM-Card-Reader-Writer-Copier-Backup-Cloner-New_W0QQitemZ150157090933QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150157090933

it claims to clone your sim and make a supersim which has combines several sims into one. Rather suprisingly it is the same price as the adaptors as well.

    Any thoughts?

Thanks for info on this item - have been debating about dual sim options for some time but unwilling to cut sims, and a pain if you change phones, as many dual sims are phone specific.

Have ordered one - thought it was worth a try for the price! If nothing else, it seems like a good way of having a backup of all your phone numbers etc. If I can copy 2 sims onto it and switch between the numbers, so much the better.

In the interests of spreading risk, could you let me know if this works for you? :-)

Just reporting back on the ebay sim cloner device...

Not had any success I'm afraid. Same thing happens with both sims I've tried - although at first the green light shows on the USB reader, it changes to red, and you get the error message "please check the reader and the sim card". I'm sure I'm putting it in the right way. (There's a little drawing on the reader).
