Ending 30 day SIM only contract

Have been with Virgin for a long time. I need a higher data allowance. I've phoned and asked them to match or beat a Gift Gaff deal and had no joy.
I've got my PAC off them and looking at moving to either Giff Gaff or The People's Operator. Will my 30 days notice only start when that PAC is activated by me moving to the new provider, in which case I will be paying for 2 contracts for 30 days?
I bought my handset SIM free. Putting my Virgin SIM in it won't alter that, will it? I.e, it won't have become somehow locked to Virgin?
Probably silly questions but would be grateful for any advice.

Unless it's an iPhone bought from CPW it shouldn't have locked to Virgin
The 30 days notice will start once the PAC is used ...if you fail to use it the contract carries on.It's not just about the money0 -

It's not an iPhone.
If I use the PAC then I will be paying for two contracts for 30 days in that case?
I was asked on the phone if I wanted to give 30 days' notice there and then. I should have said yes but didn't really understand.
Might give it a day or two while I decide who to move to and in case Virgin phone me with another offer. Seems unlikely now that they've given me the PAC though.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Only iPhones can lock themselves and only when used first time.noelphobic wrote: »It's not an iPhone.
No, if you use it at the end of 30 days that it lasts for. Don't leave it until the very last day though. If I use the PAC then I will be paying for two contracts for 30 days in that case?
It's either a notice or a PAC, not both.I was asked on the phone if I wanted to give 30 days' notice there and then. I should have said yes but didn't really understand.0 -
Got to write demanding for PAC, leave a week for double paid plan on two networks(old and new) for number transfer and obviously issue notice of contract termination as IE:Dear all,
(to) (From)
xxxx xxxxxx
xxxx date
(by email for an immediate effect) and letter by recorded post delivery to xxxxx Customer Services, Cancellations
Here is notice of contracts termination in writing (by e-mail) for the accounts:
Number xxxxxxxxxxxxx Telephone number xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
and Number xxxxxxx "telephone" (SIM adapter) number xxxxxxxxxx
termination, as off today xxxxxxxxxxxx (30 days notice).
I demand PAC (number transfer authority code)
I am informing you, that direct debit payment for both accounts has been stopped, with immediate effect.
Do not bother calling me, do not sell my information or pass over my details to no third parties.
I will pay for the reminder of the plans in percentage of amount of days left for the part of a month left on a plan and paid for.
Wish you very best in your future quests, be it, not involving myself or my money,
Signed XXXXX Xxxxx0 -

It seemed clear to meJust confirmation of process- procedure
as it wasn't clear, if OP had done both, not to end up with outstanding contract and/or invalidated PACnoelphobic wrote: »

Where did that nonsense template come from? Ignoring for a second the horrific grammar and unnecessary aggressive nature of the letter, immediately cancelling a direct debit when you haven't had a final bill is a terrible idea, and you can get a PAC code a lot quicker by asking nicely on the phone/web chat.0 -

Kindness does go long way, being rude and obnoxious at times goes further!
Copied, modded text usually from internet, from users, that had learned the nature of dealing with most networks CS's, to suit my needs, when after spending at least half a day with "CS" it seemed most appropriate!
