Claiming Job Seekers and Pre School

Your husband will not be able to restrict his availability for hours of work, if he suggests this he will not satisfy the conditions for JSA. If he refuses an interview, appointment or other direction due to dropping you off he will be sanctioned.
Good luck with the job hunting and solutions for the little one accessing nursery. The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0 -
Surely if you could afford to run to cars when he was working, you'll be able to consider getting another one when he gets a job again. School before 5 is not compulsary. Surely you can see that him using the car to get to work (or taking him) is far more important than your child getting a few hours of nursery care in the short term?
I seriously doubt whether we would be able to run two cars again. The cost of a new car, Insurance and up keep would be too much for us to afford unless he earns a good wage and the chances of that are pretty slim. Even if we picked up and old banger it would still take a while to save up to afford it. We will just have to make do with the one car.0 -
It is something to aspire to, a comfort that will be welcome when you are able to afford it again. Many things people take for granted, but for many is a luxury. Hopefully he will be able to get a better paid job, if not right away, soon and you'll be able to enjoy the freedom of your own car again.0

Are the schools any closer or easier to get to than the pre-school? If not, you will need to find a permanent solution to the problem - is relocating an option? Otherwise you really will struggle next year when your daughter is four, and you have to do the daily school run.0

That is the nearest Pre- School and Primary School. Therefore once she is in the Reception class free transport will be laid on for her, via School Bus or Taxi although 4 seems very young to be going on her own.0 -
Don't you both have to sign on, when its a joint claim.
We did a few years ago.0 -
Just making sure he did actually do a joint claim, i had to sign on even though i didnt need to job search.
Have you notified tax credits as they should up your money to maximum amount of £115 a week.0 -
I think that would probably be the best option if the job is fairly local but our nearest reasonable size town is 40 minutes away
You may find being rural is understood by the Jobcentre as long as hubby shows willing on everything elsedon't worry to much as I remember being told to travel 50+ miles was deemed somewhat troubling by the old fashioned variety at the Jobcentre and that I should stay local when searching for work and my appointments were always made at helpful times being more than 30 minutes away from the JCP office with excellent links would you believe it, we even had a park and ride service since I'd last claimed!! - my claim not that long ago, it really pays to just say yes at times to whatever they say, you are ok if making the effort to get a job x

Hi Donnalou,
This isn't the answer to your question (sorry) but if you feel you need the time but can't get to the preschool, you can send your daughter to a childminder for the funded childcare hours. So if there's a childminder with spaces in your village that might be an option for you.
Children can use the funded hours right through reception age too, so if it turns out to continue to be impractical for you to get your daughter to the school, and don't want to put her in school transport at four, you can keep your daughter with a childminder.0
