Claiming Job Seekers and Pre School

Hi There,

Please be kind to me as this is the first time that we have ever claimed JSA. My Husband recently lost his job ans so has just started to claim JSA he has his first appointment with them next week. We have two small children and live in a very rural village. We got my car scrapped the other week so we only have one car now which is fine at the moment but my daughter is due to start Pre-School is September for 3 afternoons a week. It is 4 miles away and there is no public transport so without a car it is impossible to get there.

I just wondered what the Job Centre would say about this, surely turning down a job ( if there is one) because he needs to be home to take my daughter to Pre- School wouldn't be a good enough excuse would it?

Ideally a job where I could drop him off and pick him up again would he ideal or working out of these hours or maybe even working from home but I gather everyone is trying that now.

As I have said I am new to all this so any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you :)

So you drop him off for his apt then drop off at pre school. He may have to hang around a bit but no big deal.

Sorry maybe I worded it wrong, it's not the appointment that is the problem its working the hours that my daughter needs to be dropped off and picked up from Pre-School.

    Still struggling. You aren't working.
4 miles with push chair, scooter, bike or whatever is needed.
What hours did he previously work?

pre school isn't mandatory if you can't get her there. He will most certainly be sanctioned if refusing a job that doesn't allow this.

I think what is being suggested is that you will have to do the dropping off/picking up your daughter.

We had two cars previously and she hasn't been to Pre-School before
She will be at Preschool for 3 hours a day. It would be 4 miles and 3 3/4 miles of that is single track country lanes so it is impossible without a car.
