Broken goods injury, how to complain and what to expect?

The OP states that she had only worn the shoes twice, even from a cheap store, I think most people would expect shoes to last more than 2 outings, especially where no alcohol is involved.
OP, you have a good case for a refund at the very least. I would hope that a good retailer would add something for goodwill as you were hurt and had to take time off work, but not all will. The sale of goods act says that goods should last a reasonable amount of time. Depending on the cost, I think most people expect to get at least a year out of shoes, more if they are expensive.
The SOGA also states that after 6 months the onus is upon the customer to prove that the item is inherently faulty. It's probably close to impossible to prove that the heel tip came away because it was inherently faulty as opposed to misuse by the wearer. I've pulled the heel tip off stilettos on numerous occasions and it is just as easily done with an expensive pair as a cheap one. Realistically she is looking at a goodwill gesture, and they may well back away from even offering that if they feel that it might pave the way for a costly personal injury claim.0
