Broken goods injury, how to complain and what to expect?

I was recently injured when a pair of heels that I had only worn twice broke on a staircase leading to me falling down the stairs into a brick wall.
I was taken to hospital in a neck brace and had all the relivent xrays but luckily didn't break anything.
This fall has left me anxious and the whole thing was such a horrible ordeal I feel terrible about it but because my injurys were mostly superficial (bruises, cuts and sprains) I don't know what I can do to complain and what I should expect from complaining. I also don't want anybody else to go through the same thing if the product is faulty. I also purchased the heels last September and can't find the receipt.

I've lost the days at work I had to take off sick and a product that was almost brand new. My question really is do I have a right to at least get a refund on the product and potentially some good will.
and regarding your advice, shoes are made to be walked in and you don't expect for them to break, I was just lucky that they broke then and not somewhere more harmful0 -
You can ask for a refund - you'll need to provide proof of purchase and demonstrate that the goods were inherently faulty.0

As above, you are entitled to a full refund for the shoes.
When you said they broke, in what way did they break?
Did you follow the rules of walking down staircases in heels?
I am assuming there was no alcohol involved?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
There is a cap at the end of the heel for grip and support that came off, underneath there's a metal ball type thing. I didn't realise the cap had come off and when I stepped on the metal ball I lost my balance and my feet came out from under me.
And no alcohol what so ever, I was also walking slowly.
My only concern is I haven't found the receipt as of yet and I purchased them some months ago, I'm not one to complain usually so I don't really know how it all works and if it's too late etc hense my post.0 -
To clarify the cap came off whilst walking down the stairs not before hand0

Yes I did! I'll have a look through my statements. I wasn't sure if that was sufficient proof that you purchased that specific item.
So do I just start by emailing the company?0 -
September that's nearly a year old and well past the SOGA 6 months rule .
You will need to prove the shoes are faulty now and the reason they broke is due to a manufacturing defect .
Your claim would be against the vendor but if the shoes are a British manufacturer i would also complain to them ( i know not many are )0 -
I would go into the store so that they can see the shoes. They might be more forthcoming if they can see that the shoes have had very little wear. Realistically you are looking at a goodwill remedy as you have had them more than 6 months and it will be nigh on impossible to prove that they are inherently faulty.0
