Of course it is. You have to opt in to store your location history with google. Even if you do opt in you can delete individual days or even the whole history record.
So if you don't want to use it, you don't have to................Optional.

nothing about tracking is opt in, it's insidious, it's almost impossible to use any sort of internet connected device without accepting all the privacy policies that allow them to suck up any information they wish
