I've sold a couple of things:

    an oven
    some moisturisers

Only sold them as they were things I didn't really need. Not sure why I entered the one for the oven but got £200 for it!

Got £100 for the mosturisers - would have kept them if no one had bought them.

I think anything about half its value is acceptable price for selling.

I don't have much time for comps now so only enter baby related things and that's life etc comps for money prizes so won't be selling anything in the distant future!

Mine is a mixed bag. I enter for things I want, like, need and could use the money for ... I am a stay at home mum, money is tight and I do what I can to earn a little extra. I spend many hours entering them, why shouldn't I be allowed to sell a prize? In all fairness, I have only ever sold two wins. The majority stays with me or is given away as gifts. Its not very often I win highly priced things... I can't sell a jar of curry sauce now can I? :p

Alongside competitions, I get a lot of freebies - mostly through vouchers and samples. We can't say no to them!! xx

The attitude to selling on is no different to the attitude given if you say, saw a really good deal and bought up loads of stock to sell on eBay at profit.

People, particularly those who missed out on the deal, feel jealous that they didn't manage to get hold of one, blame the person who got there first and bought loads, and vent their feelings on it.

Same for comps. 'I really wanted it, I never won because that person who didn't even want it and sold it won, they shouldn't have entered in the first place.'

In both cases - it's the green eyed monster that causes the reaction.

Like most others have said, I only enter for things I want. However, I also want lots of money - so if I see a high value prize, i'll enter even if I don't want it or need it, as it's a saleable item.

IDeamOfFairies had it spot on. We all want stuff, we all dream of winning stuff, but that win on the wish list doesn't always come. But setting a goal, and chasing it in a slightly different way (other wins sold to achieve the car you never won) sounds like a great plan to me.

At the end of the day - everyone has their opinion. Some hate compers and disqualify them, some embrace them. Some enter to sell, some enter to keep. It's all about the fun of the chase whatever your end goal is. Life's too short to care about others' motives.

Except the cheats. BURN THEM AT THE STAKE!

I only ever enter for things myself or someone in my family would want. Waste of time imo entering for stuff i have no use for. Youre denying someone else of something they may have really wanted.

But if someones won something fair and square its theirs to do as they wish i suppose (unless it says in Ts&Cs you cant sell it, thats a different ball game though).
Theres a prolific blogger on Twitter who enters (and wins) loads of comps and she sells everything she wins which really isnt fair i dont think. Like i said, it takes away from someone else at the end of the day.

Looks like you believe in envy but not in greed. If compers are selling because they need the money, then I don't see the problem. But if they are just greedy and can't get enough, then their actions might be ethically questionable.

Fair point on the greed. If it's gimme more gimme more, don't care what for the sake of it, I don't see the point. If it's with a goal in mind (the car story above) then I say it's fair game.

Here's one - what's worse, someone who wins then sells, or someone with a cupboard full of stuff they haven't touched because they've won so much they can't get round to it?

I don't particularly enter for things i don't want or need but if i did receive a prize i didn't want, then yes i'd sell it. I have no problem people doing what they like with their prize even if it means selling it for something else they need or desire. At the end of the day, it's no one else's business :)

A few years back I desperately wanted to win a Champneys break - and I did!!! But it arrived a couple of weeks before Christmas and money was really tight at the time so I sold it. I was gutted but the money to make a good Christmas was more important.

I only enter for tickets that I (or a friend) can use / want. Other prizes I no longer have qualms about selling on (but it really doesn't happen that often!) Most of my small and runner up prizes go into charity tombolas etc.
