MSEr's attitude re selling on unwanted prizes?

Either unexpected 'runner up' things, or specifically entering comps, and selling on anything won-
Would you feel comfortable / desparate enough?
And what would be fair price- eg, if a gift card?
Also, would YOU buy such items, on ebay etc?
Asking for a hard up friend :-)

It's a moral decision for me
I only enter for stuff I want or know someone who would value it.
Some people enter to sell- in most cases they'd get a better return in a minimum wage job
What I really don't like is people flogging obvious prizes for special one offs like concert tickets with a meet and greet for a specific artist- I think those should be left for genuine fans not the "not my thing but it's a win" types.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Yes, I sell nearly all my items - I don't care what anyone else thinks - It is my item to do as I please ...... the money I make then goes to buy things I do want (this year it bought me a car)
As for gift cards - they sell for almost face value on eBay
(IE - I sold a £500 Amazon voucher for £480)Yes, I know there is no "R" in the word dream in my username - it was setup in memory of my grandson :A0 -
I only enter for things I would like for our family, should I be lucky enough to win a runners up prize that I don't want it goes to one of three places, the girl next door runs charity events so things for the tombola always welcome, items that aren't ideal for her go to the local Sal Army charity shop, and food items go to the local food bank.
Wouldn't dream of entering to sell on, life is too short and I feel mean spirited for those same who really want the item.Jan. £10 WOW streaming, Feb £10, 28 days collagen, Games, VAR headset, Mar, Games Headset, Whisky tasting pack, Amazon Fire Stick, Apr, £10, Bio-Kult,Mad Max, May DVD, Book,£5, Garden box, Apple watch, June £200, £30 July £25 Uber eats, Tamagotchi, £5 Aug DVD x2 £10 Sep Colouring set, £5, Oct £5, £17.73 Nov Book, £5, Sweater, Tequila, Cranberry juice, Dec £5, 2023 Jan £5,0 -

I wouldn't dream of telling people they should be doing this or that. It is personal choice what people do just because someone sees something as wrong or mean spirited or whatever it doesn't actually mean that it is.
I see each prize as a monetary value. I don't need an iPad because I have one but I would really like a new settee and my chances of winning a new settee are slim so I won't skip an iPad comp or any other comp where I don't need or want the prize I will see that prize as XXX amount towards my new settee and so far I am nearly half way to getting the settee I would like. Comp for your reasons and don't be ashamed to say what your reasons are. If your friend is hard up and struggling then he/she needs to do whatever to make things better and if people think that is wrong then they must lead a very charmed life.0 -
I only enter for things I or my family/close friends would love to have. I agree with Carol2712, I would feel rather mean spirited potentially taking something that someone else would really like to have just to sell it2025 £913, 2024 £72, 2023 £2230, 2022 £300, 2021 £1800, 2015 £3790, 2014 £44600

I only enter for things I want to win, but I have won a runners up prize which I couldn't use, so I offered it for free to one of my friends whose little one would be able to use it as the prize was more female related and I know my little boys wouldn't have been interested.
I think once someone has won a prize it is theirs to do what they wish with it. Of course, in the T&Cs it sometimes says that you can't sell the prize and I do feel it is possibly immoral to enter for a prize which is quite unique (i.e. a once-in-a-lifetime band prize) and then sell it as someone who is a fan of the band would have loved it.
We live in hard times at the moment, and if it's a case of owning a gadget someone has won or being able to put food on the table, then of course food on the table will always come first.
The problem with comping is that it can be a very judgmental hobby. There is no right way to comp, but some people get a bee in their bonnet when you do things differently to them. At the end of the day, you are the only one who has to live with your decisions and if you feel the need to sell a prize, then that's your prerogative and it's not really anyone else's business.2019 Wins

It's entirely up to you, I have sometimes sold things I would rather have kept because I needed something else more.
Sometimes filling the freezer seemed more urgent.
Don't really concern myself with the opinions of others in this matter.0
