Thanks Luckyinlife you have convinced me
we are planning to do another car boot on Sunday so any money we make from that I will add to FIRE pot :j
Doesn't matter how old you are you should always keep in touch with family, I am twice as old (well nearly)as you and I speak to my mum everyday
however my DH only speaks to his parents twice a week and only if I remind him...I have convinced myself it's a man thing!! :rotfl:
Have a lovely weekend0 -
A very expensive day today. DS2has had a change of circumstances recently so I offered ( he didn't ask) to buy him something that will make his day to day living a lot easier and nicer. £1.4k paid today with a further £1.5k to pay in a couple of months. Ok it's a lot of money but I feel a lot better for doing it and I know it will make him happier and that is worth every penny to me
We also had two birthday gifts to buy today. The birthdays are big milestone birthdays so always try and buy something nice so another £110 spent. Our 123 account has taken a good bashing today that's for sure
DH wanted to buy me a handbag I saw in House of Fra@er but I said no, it was lovely but I do have lots of handbags some very expensive which I hardly use so I really thought it was a waste of money. People who know me will faint with shock when I tell them I said no :rotfl::rotfl: impulse purchases will have to stop when we retire so I might as well start as I mean to go on.
Currentlyin my coffee as my football team are being thrashed so not the best day in the PG house.:(:(
Building myself up to go in the loft and sort out all of the things we want to sell at car boot sale tomorrowthen early to bed as it's an early start to make sure we get a good spot. Fingers crossed we make a little bit of money to replace what we have spent today.

Another Carboot done :j:j £75 made in total this will be put back into 123 account to replace some of the money we spent yesterday. We have a few family events over the next couple of weekends so no more car boots until September
Waiting for Car tax refund cheque to clear and utilities refund to hit my account so I can use that for a OP.
Back to work tomorrow:(

After such an early start this morning I really needed an early night but Andy Murray's match is going on longer than I expected...but I don't mind as long as he wins! Come on Murray :j:j:T:T0

Today is the lull before the storm day..........my parents arrive tomorrow to stay with us for a few days
. I haven't lived with them for over 30 years so a few days is enough!
I love seeing them but it's blo@dy hard work getting ready for their arrival!
The oven has been cleaned to an inch of its life, house has been cleaned top to bottom, cleared wardrobe to make way for the 30+ outfits my mother will come with even put towels in tumble dryer so they are nice and fluffy
:). I don't have a dirty house but it's not up to mother's standards so had to make the effort
The royal visit :eek: has dented my finances and massively over spent on food. I know I should have planned better but I didn't:( no excuses, however I have resisted and not used the CC I have used the money we earned at car boot and the DVLA refund. So this isn't going into FIRE pot
DH gets paid Friday and I next week so when the royal visitors have left we will sit down and work out what needs paying and what is left. I am hoping we can add a big chunk into FIRE pot and make a small OP too as well as exchanging a few 00's into Euros to pop in overseas account when we go on holiday in September0 -
Hello Popgirl
I think I saw you on Goldie's thread - you sound like you're doing really well, but I can see how easy it is for money to slip by ... it really impresses me when people on really good incomes are savvy with spending - I suppose because I wasn't, not really, oops ... plus good for you on the car boots - a lot of stuff leaves the house in one go, thats great!
Anyway, I hope the visit from your parents goes well, not too angsty, and you get some time to yourself too.
PS - offspring not in contact, definitely a boy thing!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thank you Karmacat I think we are nearly ready for the visit! Dinner was quick and easy tonight so we didn't mess up the kitchen!
Miracles do happen I have heard from DS1 twice this week! His GF is back home from working away so I think that might have had something to do with it! They are both very excited as they go on their first holiday together later this week!
Better get on with scrubbing the floors!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way....I would never be any good working at cadbury's I would eat all the profits!!0 -
There was a discount shop on the premises ... the other reason for not eating Cadbury products for a long time afterwards was that I ate *so* many creme eggs in one month
:rotfl:

Yum yum I love creme eggs....I love chocolate full stop:j:j
Parents have arrived so far so good :j however I really feel like a coiled spring tonight so struggling to sleep. Don't know the reason why I feel like this but it has to be a combination of preparing for parents arrival, being really busy at work and DH being so grumpy as he dislikes work so much at the momentDH's attitude is so negative about work it is definitely rubbing off on me and I have no doubt on his work colleagues too:( . He has disliked the job for a while now and this has contributed to our decision to finish work. Normally I would tell him to hand in his notice now but we have money invested in his company share schemes which we don't benefit from until November so he has to stick it out until at least then!! The industry he works in has changed so much over the years and since the "scandal years" and some of the industry being bailed out by the government it has got worse. DH doesn't work for a company that has had a bail out but the cost cutting measures, working with the minimum amount of staff possible and IMO the security risks they are putting on the workers is taking it toll on him and other colleagues. Believe me the big fat bonus, nice benefits etc that are talked about in this press are not seen at DH's level, he is lucky if he gets a lunch break!!!!!!
