Hello Popgirl, thought I'd take a looksee what you've been doing - and wow, a flat for DS2 is amazing. If there's enough money within the family, why not? As you say, thats the period of their lives when help is needed most. My youngest nephew lives in a flat bought for his wife in a similar way, though not identical, it's just the most sensible thing to do.
A shame you couldn't get your sabbatical agreed - hope they accept it on the second go.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Not posted for 7 months on my own diary but have been reading other peoples diaries as and when I could as it's been a very busy time. DS2 finally moved into his first home took nearly 6 months from placing the offer to exchanging!!!! Vendor and their solicitor were totally rubbish but at least he is in now and settled which is so wonderful to see.
DS1 now settled into a new job and new location. Finding him somewhere decent to rent wasn't easy but we finally found somewhere in good condition and nicely decorated. We are landlords and would never ever put on the letting market some of the flats we looked at in the condition they were in. Some landlords should be utterly ashamed. Not worth considering helping DS1 buying his first home ATM due to the industry he works in and the possibility of moving every couple of years. He knows we will do the same for him as we did for DS2 when he is ready.
The biggest update I have is ..............I have finished work!!!!!!! I left at the end of May took a redundancy package I would have been silly to turn down. Not missed work for one minute which is a big surprise to many people (including myself) as I lived and breathed my job even though in the end I really hated it. So in between helping DS1 and DS2 DH and I have packed up, left our rental place, sold or gave away everything we didn't want, shipped a lot of our personal belongs to our home abroad ready to fly out for 3 months in two weeks time! DH will leave his little PT job a couple of days before we leave so from then onwards we will be living on our rental income. We have been planning this move for a few years now and we are comfortable with the amount of savings and investments we have. We are not planning to drawdown any regular amounts anytime soon. I just hope the pot lasts as long as I think it will.
Can't wait to be in the sunshine :j :j0
