Private plate / changing car

So I've gone online at dvla and paid £80 and they issued online a reg number for my old car. It said to transfer number plates, but I can't officially get plates made up until the paperwork arrives in 3-5 working days. It also says notify insurer, but I'm still driving round on the old plates. So I assume it is OK to wait a few days before transferring plates and notifying insurer?
The site lets you print a certificate that you can take to get number plates made up when you complete the process. (It's on the final page) If you didn't do this then yes you'll need to wait for your docs.0 -

Well that's nonsense you can get plates for a vehicle if you have don't own it. You need to provide proof of your name and address and proof that you are allowed to use the registration number.

Yes you do need proof of address as well. But you don't need the V5C or V11. Your own link tells you that.0

No the link I provided said you can use the V5C V11 or another document. But most people do have those documents for a number plate they have been provided online, as the person above has, just stuck up their !!!!. So how in your head does the person above get his new number plates with no V5C or any other document listed above?0 -

Website and guidance notes (that I did print off) state:
"If you have the number plates already, you should put these on your vehicle as soon as possible
If you need to have your new plates made up, you can do this once you have received your new V5C at your nearest DVAL approved number plate supplier"I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. That link states you need one of the following:Proving you can use the registration number
You must bring one of the following to show you’re allowed to display the registration number:
vehicle registration certificate (V5C or V5CNI)
new keeper supplement (V5C/2 or V5C/2NI)
certificate of entitlement (V750 or V750NI) to the number
retention document (V778) - not applicable in Northern Ireland
a renewal reminder for vehicle tax or SORN (V11 or V11NI)
temporary registration certificate (V379 or V379NI)
a number plate authorisation certificate (V948) with an official stamp from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or DVSA
a letter of authorisation from a fleet operator (including lease or hire company) quoting the document reference number from the registration certificate
I don't have any of those. All I have is a print out from the dvla website that says my application is successful.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
