HP Cash-back HELP!

Hi,

I bought a laptop from HP directly in this country. I bought it because I was offered £100 from HP to buy this particular model.

I waited the 30 days that they asked and I provided them with all the information they required (real hoop jumping and not a simple form) they emailed back almost straight away to say my cash-back claim was valid and that they will pay me the money within 30 days.

Well, 30 days came and went and still nothing. I emailed them to complain and they said they;

'Dear Mr xxxxx,

Thank you for your email, your claim has been approved but internal delays have held up to reporting process.
I have been advised the rebate will be paid by next week, this is subject to change if the issue is not resolved.

Best Regards'

Well this also passed and nothing happened.

I have gone on to twitter (although they only use a single account for the whole English speaking world) to have a go at them at being inept because I feel like they've duped me. Got me to buy it based on the £100 cash back but now they're acting like it's up to them whether or not I get it!

I've used resolver to complaint to them but I don't hold out much hope.

Is there anything else I could do?

Had no idea until you wrote the word furious all in capitals!

It certainly sounds like a frustrating situation, however they are not saying that you won't get the money and they did say that should the issue not be fixed it could change when you will get the money.

Same here. Spent a bit more on basis of cashback (though in the knowledge that it's never 100% guaranteed). They made the claim code hard to find, rejected first application due to inputting purchase date not invoice date, a whole day apart. Approved 15th June for payment within 30 days, their terms!

Still waiting after 43 days, their emails become gradually more fobbing off. Have contacted John Lewis who sold the laptop and have just sent an email via the HP website to the executive team.

What should have been positive PR is rapidly becoming very bad PR!

Had a cashback claim with HP a few years ago and didn't run into any problems. Do the T&C's say 30 working days? as that would make it 6 weeks.

Not much of an excuse, but HP is going through a company split currently. So all sorts of disruptions might be delaying your cashback.

"We are happy to confirm that your claim has been validated. A bank transfer for £100 will be made within the next 30 days to the bank details provided upon registration."

It seems they never intended paying until right up to the 30 days. They say it will be paid but don't seem to have the remotest idea when. Not really good enough in my humble opinion.

This is their latest "Thank you again for your response. I acknowledge that you have received conflicting information however, it wasn’t until yesterday that the contact centre became aware of the apparent delay and affect of this on customers. I apologise for the misinformation you were given.
Please accept my sincere apologies for any distress or inconvenience caused. Can I reassure you that the rebate will be paid, however, as per the previous email, at this point we do not have any more information. You will receive your rebate but there is a delay with the processing."

Well I'd emailed them about 10 days previously. Not sure if they're totally incompetent or 'at it'.

Just confirms why I tend to avoid cashback!

You dont have to jump through hoops to get the cashback

It's a metaphor! You do have to give the invoice date and number and product serial number and send a copy of the invoice. I'd say that was jumping through hoops.

I'd say that was providing proof of a valid claim.
