If the UK was operating more 7 by 7, would you care if your weekend was on the traditional days? Do you really need/want Sunday off to go to mass/service?
I would not mind so much so long as children's schools follow the same 7 day policy. Most parents cannot work at weekends BECAUSE of this.

A friend of mine's mum had a stroke on Christmas Day. She didn't receive any physiotherapy for the two holiday days, by which time she was permanently paralysed down one side. I don't think that's acceptable. Some jobs need to be on shifts so all time periods are covered, and remunerated accordingly.

sorry to hear and yes, that is totally unacceptable! Pardon my ignorance on NHS politics, how did it even get to this point? where there is limited staff on weekends/public holiday?

aaaaaah the pickle I see!!!!! Comfortable life!

I remember when I grew up, my dad used to work nights, my mum days because back then, babysitting was not a popular option.

if mummy works over the weekend, daddy can look after the kids?

The problem is if you are going to staff hospitals at weekends at the same level they are staffed in the week it will cost or you will have to reduce the level of cover.

How does that work with both parents working with a disabled son that NO babysitter is qualified to handle?,,,,Not what I would call a comfortable life.

Not budgeting a hospital on a 24x7 basis seems as moronic as assuming 'strokes' or 'car accidents' will not happen on weekends!

Staff costs may increase but you get to offset that against assets being used for 7/7 days rather than 5/7.

My radiotherapists worked a 9 day fortnight as is the norm in the Aussie health system. As a result, the extremely expensive radiography unit sat unused for 5 days out of 14, more than a third of the time.

do you care if your days of rest were on different days?

If you're single and have no friends and family then I guess it doesnt matter.
I would certainly want my rest days on the same day as my husband.
We see other family on weekends too. Some work odd shifts but mostly the social time is Saturday and Sunday.

Most physiotherapy on the NHS happens after it's needed (I did a rehabilitation course). Obviously that's a lot less acceptable if you suffer serious side effects.

I am sorry about that, however that would fall in exceptions?

I guess in that case - so long as Staff are given exceptions. I imagine exceptions would cover religious purposes too.
