now i've been thinking (yes, THAT'S what the noise was :rotfl: ) about this false economy thing raging about economy loo roll (how its so thin, you need more, so end up spending more money)
i cant help but thinking that all loo paper is a false economy (not only given what we use it for
) but also the way in which we use it.
it struck me whilst changing my nephew's nappy the other day, that surely it would make more sense to use wet wipes/ moist toilet tissue on us grown ups as well as the little un's? you get more cleaning action per sheet, hence use less, therefore save money
must admit to having used wetwipes before on the odd occasion where we are caught without loo roll, and whilst it is a strange sensation to begin with (not to mention sometimes a little cold  ), it is...without being too crude...much quicker and easier post a number 2.
just my two pennies worth.....

Without wishing to be vulgar.......
We have baby wipes in the bathroom. Used in conjuction with loo roll it is much more hygenic....especially for the kids after numero deux
:shhh:Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
A little box of tesco luxury moist toilet tissue sits permanently on top of our cistern. Can't believe I'm actually posting this
Pink0 -
You can't use them - or at least, you shouldn't flush them down the loo - if you have certain private drainage systems. We can't use them as we have a system that drains via a series of "tumbling rooms" i.e. no cess pit or tank. The wipes block the system and it's not v pleasant having to try & clear it out, about 500 yards down the field
Personally, I can't be doing with spending too much money on stuff you flush down the loo or wash down the sink. Might as well just flush £tenners down there in the first place!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
With DFC on this one - smartprice loo roll, what, about 10p a roll? Baby wipes expensive and no so environmentally friendly.0

always thought charmins advert was a bit brainwashing. Just because its thicker doesnt mean you will use less squares because people tend to take enough to keep their hands clean, even thought they wash them afterwards.0

What a bizarre thread ...
I've tried the old Andrex wet wipes ... and they, er, gave me a rash. And seemed to encourage piles. Um, and you still need to "dry" yourself. But we did discuss this at the weekend during our attempt to get the shopping bill down, and we decided that as we're cutting back in so many other ways, we'd keep our "luxury" Andrex loo roll with puppies. And, funnily enough, the Andrex brand was the same price as the Tesco brand for 12 rolls (12 rolls last for ages with only 2 adults).spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
The problem is how much you use rather than what you use. I can manage with 2 sheets and fold etc!!!! Whereas the OH uses reams and reams and scrunches!!!! It's been a debate in our house for ages!!! Oh well - there's worse things to argue about!!Accepted offer on our house - Sept 2006

Agreed!! I like my Andrex thoughbut this month we're "Testing" Lidl's loo roll.
TBH, when the toilet wipes were first advertised I was :rotfl: thinking "Whatever will they think of next to get us to spend money!!" Coupled with being more environmentally focused now, I absolutely *shudder*! (Quick fix it may be, the longer term affects are scarey!)
For those who feel they are a good/practical/more hygenic solution for their lifestyle - that's fine, we'll just have to amicably agree to disagree
I'm more than happy to rely on toilet paper good old fashioned soap and water:think: I do recall my military siblings remarking on how they had to cope with one square of paper when they were on exercise ... nah, won't explain *that* method; there really are *limits*, even for me!

Hi Queenie,
I am testing Lidl's loo roll as well this week, the "luxury one" (as it was on offer) and I have to say that we are not that impressed at the moment. We seem to be getting through it really fast (using a roll a day and there are only three of us who use it, baby still uses nappies!) This is much faster than the Charmins or the Sainsbury's one we usually get. Are the Lidl sheets smaller? Bought quite a few things from Lidl the other day (as recommended by this site) and everything else is really good!0 -

Luxury!
We were taught to tear that sheet into postage stamp size pieces.
