I have found to use less sheets is to squish the roll up. That way it can't come flying off.
Also using to much luxury thick paper clogs the drains up more as well.

My mother used to cut up newspaper into squares and hang it from a nail when I was small. We lived in one room and shared an outside toilet with 3 other families. She said she wasnt paying for them to use her toilet paper. When we moved to a council flat and she bought co-op toilet roll,we thought it was luxury.
Im suprised the military didnt just expect the soldiers to use a handfull of grass. When we camped where there was a 'compost' loo, thats what a lot of people did.0 -
When I was in Romania about 9 years ago, their loos were a wooden box with a hole in. There was no loo roll at all - had to use a leaf!!!Accepted offer on our house - Sept 2006

With 3 kids spending lots on toilet roll would be a false economy for me, we're stuck with Asda Smartprice for the moment until I don't have kids that use half a roll of anything in one 'sitting'Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

IME most people take off their standard amount regardless of whether it is cheap 'n' thin or luxury double quilted. Don't ask me how I know this - I just do OK:p I can't believe you lot are buying bum paper anyway. Do none of you get a free paper? Failing that there's still plenty of party political bumf still hanging arounf you could use:DLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Same problem.
We use a decentish toilet roll and Wilkies kids flushable toilet wipes although I have to remind then to only use one or ther'ed be half a pck of those as well as half a loo roll.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

Nouvelle works well enough for me. It's not luxury and quilted, but it's not really cheap and thin. And most importantly, it IS recycled, as ALL loo roll should be, in my opinion!
I guess there's something to be said for the French and their bidets - not clogging up the nations drains with their moist wipes!!!!0 -
This thread is quite delightful :rotfl:
Well seeing as we're all discussing it............... my Mum gave me a bin-bag full of cheapo loo rolls, I got so sick of getting them out of the cupboard that I ended up leaving the bag on the bathroom floor  We were getting through a roll a day 'easily' so roughly we used around 21 rolls in 3 weeks.
When they ran out I bought some Andres puppies on a roll (£1.26 from Asda).....it was like the never ending porridge pot, they never run out! Four rolls 3 weeks! They feel better on yer bum too
4 rolls of Andrex or 21 rolls of cheapo?
Also....drifting into the realms of TMI.......:D I think it's actually quite important to use a moist wipe. If you got poo on your hand you wouldn't wipe if off with a tissue would you? You'd wash it! Same applies for your nether regions........It's not always practical to have a good wash so surely a moist wipe is the next best thing.
There...I feel like you all know me that little bit better nowJust run, run and keep on running!0 -
We had a load of trial packs of Andrex wet wipes delivered to work as freebies...........some how quite a few packets ended up in my bathroom cupboard at home <stealthy whistle>. I have to say I didn't bother buying more when they ran out.
Now I buy whatever jumbo packs are on offer - I have a massive cupboard in my spare bathroom, so plenty of storage space. When this lot runs out I think I'm going to see what Costco have got to offer.0
