Car insurance dilemma

So after renewing my car insurance the other day I get a letter today about an undisclosed claim from my new car inrusance company. It turns out that from a motorway crash I had involving just myself I have a £7000 claim made against me for damaging the barrier between the motorway. This happened almost a year ago and I knew nothing about it, haven't received any letter. Turns out my insurance is now void and my current company needs to cancel it because my no claims bonus no longer exists and the claim is still open

I'm after some advice if any one could help me it would be much appreciated. It was a shock to me because I thought my no claims still stood because there was no one to claim against me but it turns out there is. Obviously I caused some damage, but 7000 sounds insane for a barrier.

Whoever pays the bill to replace the barrier will have a valid claim against you. Your insurance will cover it. Your problems start with the cancelled policy.

Some insurers wont even quote when you tick the box, have you ever had a policy cancelled box.

Fail to disclose that for future policies and another incident happens then the £7000 bill or whatever would be yours to pay.

So how much do you think it costs to close/cone off a motorway to repair a damaged barrier and how many people do you reckon may be involved? How long did it take? What does it cost material wise per metre of barrier?

I'm sure there's an element of profit making involved but hey ho.

Of course there's an element of profit. The companies who the Highways Agency contract to maintain the motorways don't do so out of the goodness of their hearts.

But these repair charges will be on a standardised scale agreed with insurers.

You're going to pay for them one way or another - if not the actual driver's insurers paying, then the taxpayer.

To close off/cone the motorway.... a couple hours labour.

And the rest, certainly no where near seven thousand quid for some flipping barriers! And if it's costing that much they need to pull their fingers out their !!!!!! and find people and suppliers who can provide some bits of metal and some concrete for the foundations. They're not building a castle, it's just a metal barrier!!
