Car insurance dilemma

I'm sure op means they knew nothing about the claim, not the accident0

I remember about 10 years ago somebody cut the wife up when she was on her way to work - she swerved to avoid the plonker - but in the process she hit a lamp post at a main roundabout - cue about 8 months later a bill from our local council for the replacement lamppost (which from memory was about 2.2k (and that was 10 years ago!!!)...0

To close off/cone the motorway.... a couple hours labour.
And the rest, certainly no where near seven thousand quid for some flipping barriers! And if it's costing that much they need to pull their fingers out their !!!!!! and find people and suppliers who can provide some bits of metal and some concrete for the foundations. They're not building a castle, it's just a metal barrier!!
So you've no idea of the costs involved then.0

I had no idea of the claim, otherwise I would of mentioned it on my new policy. There was no letters or anything I was totally confused when they told me I had a claim from 2014 and had to ring up my old insurance company who didn't know the details either who then passed me on to the underwriter who had to explain the situation to me. I hope the insurance company realize this was an honest mistake. I'm happy to pay a higher premium and lose my NCB but I think it would be really worrying if I had a cancelled policy to my name too. Especially when I knew nothing about it.. the policy is literally only 1 day old as well it's been a horrible stressful day and I hope I can sort things out tomorrow0

Also the underwriter is fighting the £7000 claim because they say it is far too much for a barrier and they believe it to be less. that's why it's still an unsettled claim. During the time of the accident there was no mention to me that there would be a claim made for me damaging the barrier, it was only scratched it wasn't fully damaged or anything so I didn't think this would be an issue0

My son had a crash a while back. Months later the roads agency tried to bill the insurers for all the damage to the road, signs and barriers in the general area. Fortunately the Police had documented the (lack of) damage and it was easy to rebut their claim. It does appear that they are chancers and just try it on in the hope that no-one puts up a fight.0

Of course there's an element of profit. The companies who the Highways Agency contract to maintain the motorways don't do so out of the goodness of their hearts.
But these repair charges will be on a standardised scale agreed with insurers.
You're going to pay for them one way or another - if not the actual driver's insurers paying, then the taxpayer.
I'm not so sure about the 'agreed' part. The bill will be what it is, I very much doubt there's any standardisation in costs.0

How did you go about rebuting this sir? I'd really like to know0

Maybe start by complaining to your previous insurer that they've failed to correspond with you in a manner reasonably expected? Take it from there?0

Told insurers to get a copy of the summary of evidence from the Police Report. Seems ironic that the Police involvement was to our advantage. Charged with careless driving but offered Driver Improvement as an alternative to prosecution in case you are wondering!0
