  • Did you have a rent increase in April and did you notify the Housing Benefit Department?

How much was you previous rent for the property?
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

The letter lists it as an applicable amount - does that mean I get it already? Sorry, don't mean to be dim!

from the figures you gave, you aren't getting the severe disability premium.
that is probably because you are on contributions based ESA.
because your income would be higher of you were on income related ESA, they will pay you an income related top up .... but you will have to apply for it.
as you receive PIP care, you will get the severe disability premium, and because you are in the support group, you will get the enhanced disability premium.
this will take your weekly ESA unto around £186 a week.
so a considerable amount more than you receive at the moment.
this amount doesn't include your PIP

the above is only relevant as long as you live alone and no one claims carers allowance for looking after you

That's a point, though I've never had to notify before...

Looking at my bank statements... it was £570.18. Every first of the month.

I'll ask, thank you. I do live alone and have no one claiming carer's allowance. I am considering getting a lodger to make up the bedroom tax though - would that matter?

I take it the onus is on the tenant to think to do this? Just no one has mentioned it at all.

would you need to if the premiums will increase your weekly benefit by £75?

    its a change in circumstances.
when you claim you agree to notify them of all changes.

they may or may not backdate the HB underpayment. it depends if they think the fact you didn't realise is reason enough

This is a good point. Though I'm really suspecting I already get this. The HB has confused me so much. Looking at my banking, I get £373 a fortnight for ESA so that would be the £186, right?

Sorry my fibro fog is bad today.

I can't even work out if they are basing it on that anyway. The gross rent listed on the letter is £131.58 which would be £526.32...
    I'm baffled.
