Martin really should learn that the phrase "PIN number" means "personal identification number number" which is utterly ridiculous.

Just think of all that lovely data Apple is collecting on its Apple Pay users.

(Although the same can be said for the other contact less providers)

They collect no information at all. They don't know your card number, where the transaction took place, which merchant you visited, or how much was spent in the transaction. It's pretty well documented.

Indeed. It is fairly well known as well that Apple model is to provide this kind of slick functionality in its well maintained ecosystem of apps, music and services to drive sales of its premium hardware. This kind of service is provided at pretty much break even. They have no interest in your personal data, it is in their interests emphasis this point as it is what differentiates them from their competitors.

Android users will be getting their own payment/wallet service in the coming months. Googles business model is based around targeting and selling adverts. There will be a great incentive to collect as much data as possible on this platform, it may well be dressed up as enhanced functionality and may well do it 'anonymously' or automated (such as Gmail) but it does differ from what Apple are offering.

I bought a used iPhone 4S in mint condition 2 years ago for £93 delivered. Surely this is real money saving compared with a new phone elsewhere Martin?

That depends on whether you think buying a two year old second hand phone for £93 is good value I guess.

Does it support Apple Pay? :rotfl:

Why you asking Martin? I doubt he bothers reading the forum anymore...

Well done Helen for correctly explaining the transaction limits (or lack of them), unlike most of the UK media who said that Apple Pay has a £20 transaction limit. You wrote:
    What's the transaction limit?
It's up to stores. In some, such Pret A Manger, there's no limit. Others are likely to apply the £20 limit on contactless cards when in a shop. We'll update this point when other stores give us their limits.
I would add that transaction limits of £20 (or £30) imposed on Apple Pay by retailers will disappear when retailers upgrade the software in their terminals to support the latest network contactless specifications. This is explained at https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204906

Given that Apple pay has two-factor authentication (something you have and something you are) unlike contactless cards which have only one-factor authentication (something you have), this is why Apple Pay has no transaction limit. After all, Chip & PIN likewise has two-factor authentication (something you have and something you know), which has no transaction limit. Retailers just need to upgrade their software to take account of two-factor authenticated contactless payments.

But I always use my PIN number at the ATM machine.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.
