Does anyone have any dealings with Carrington Car Home Finance (Leicester). Had a cold call today, the lady did quote me a cheaper price for buildings and contents but seemed very reluctant to post out details, she eventually relented, (after having said that she would have to check it out with her boss?!) what kind of a company is it, that does not like to send paper quotes out? I like time to digest info, and chew it over, and do not give out bank details willy nilly over the phone. Am I being unreasonable? anyone out there familiar with them? They have been operational around 20 years. I like the idea of saving, but she got my back up slightly. Any thoughts gratefully received.

My thought is to source the B & C quotes yourself from the internet, bet it's cheaper still. If you had read the thread you would see that they appear not to have the best reputation!!

Is it possible that certain firms are calling with insurance info, as a way to yet mortgage leads ( in an attempt to get aroumnd cold calling mortgages )
Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.
  • Hi. Hope this helps. Awd are based in leicester. They have self employed consultants woking for them. Because they have so many middle men and so much overheads they have to charge a very high fee. Otherwise the consultant would not end up with anything out of the deal.
They also are not whole of market. They used to be called carrington carr ltd. Then awd home finance ltd. Now they have gone back to carrington carr ltd. So beware. I do agree with having a qualfied consultant help you with your mortgage, but go for a small company (less overheads so therfore lower fees, if any at all) and make sure they are whole of market. They can actualy save you a lot of money over the term of your mortgage.
Companies like awd, carrington carr leave well alone.

Carrington Carr was Carrington Carr then they called themselves AWD Home Finance then they went back to Carrington Carr. Why???
Please take my advise and Leave well alone.
But be careful getting insurance on line. Insurance is a complex thing and you do not want any problems when you come to put a claim in.
  • hi

just wondering if anyone has had any experience of awd home finance? They've just phoned me and offered me any appointment to discuss my mortage renewal. I'm due to renew after 31st of dec. Any opinions good or bad would be greatly received.

    Thanks

awd are now trading as carrington carr ltd.. The fees that they charge are very high. The consutants are self employed there are so many middle men, big offices and telephone sales dept. That they have to charge such high fees. Do you want to pay for all this?. Also they are not whole of market.
Go to a small independant qualified mortgage consultant who will probably not charge you a fee. And make sure he/she is whole of market.

ETA Cummings, FYI - large companies have larger premises and more staff because they have more customers than smaller companies with fewer customers and fewer staff. It's not unusual for Mortgage advisers to be self employed, what do you think the local IFA is? I don't understand what you mean by "all the middle men". The idea is there is one middle man the broker, the same as an IFA as far as I'm aware. Finally I think any business dealing with the number of enquiries that Carrington Carr do needs to have a call centre to deal with it otherwise no business would ever get completed, especially in the current lending climate.

Yeah but to me, Large company, larger premises, more staff = more overhead and perhaps why they charge such a (relatively) high fee compared with perhaps a smaller IFA/advisor. So Cummins has a point when he mentions the high fee.

It's not that complex! From memory, something like 70% of motor insurance and 50% of Home insurance is bought online.
