I doubt very much that anyone is cold calling you as how would they know your details and that your mortgage is ending, you no doubt took out your mortgage with one of the many companies they have now taken over and own the database and customers on it

If they phone from those databases then it is cold calling. You need to hold express consent. Being on an old client bank is not good enough. Surely you must know that Vic if you work for them? Or is it that their compliance is so bad that bad sales methods are common place?

Oops, I never did update this. I did cancel the appointment, I used an independent financial advisor after all of the advise I got here, and ended up with a nice fixed rate for 5 years from Nationwide. Cheers peeps

Vic 76, organisation like yours are what gives the industry a bad name. Its all about being top salesmen - tinmen style.

What a joke you charge £2k fees on a remo - as if the client would be better off by paying that and all the other fees and interim interest.

I bet your typical salesperson would be relatively inexperienced and totaly focused on sales legaue tables (dont deny it, remember all those sales meetings you've been to that celebrate the high sellers).

This is has all started to get rather off topic. The excellent news is that Scottish Suz who started this thread, hasn't been ripped off and appears to have got the best deal going at the time which is surely what forums like this should be all about - Giving help and advice when asked for and not degenerating into a slanging match however tempting that may be.

  • Hi, I've never joined a forum before, but I had to when I saw your message! Yes, had AWD to visit us the other day. We're re-mortgaging and thought we'd give them a try. Nice enough chap, but at the end of our meeting he really did make us feel as though we were desperate and in trouble and could see how people could be swayed into taking up their offer. Wouldn't have minded but our LTV is under 50% and we only have one personal loan so we didn't really feel we had a problem. When he had left, we read the bumf he gave us and their fees could be up to £1900!!!! that doesn't include the mortgage product fee or any commission they may earn from selling the product either! Not a bad afternoons work. Also, they are not whole of market brokers so we were immediately a bit suspect as to who he recommended. Wouldn't trust them. It really annoys me that there are alot of vulnerable people who really do need help; but these companies are still making more money out of them. Hope this advice helps.

I read with interest the posts just had them offer me a "great offer" will re jig my mortgage and put me "great" insurance and protection in place and save me thousands.

Well as a credit manager i was being idle and hoping they do the leg work for me.

My current mortgage is a lifetime tracker of £122,000 at 0.17 above bank of England base rate. (currentley 1.67%) but in there ultimate wisdom they say i should go on to a mortgage with Accord Mortgages Yorkshire Building Society at a fixed 5 year @ 5.87% then at 1.87% above base there after.
Quote me insurances and protection and in fact my outgoings would go up.
Informed me that my current lender Woolwich do not have any products to suit so the additional £33k required cannot be done unless by new mortgage.

I have based my projection of the mortgage quoted (by AWD nor back as Carrington Carr once again. ) and based the mortgage rate increase of 1% @ month 3 , 2% at month 7 and return to 5.2% at week twelve and estimate by taking AWD advice i would be paying about £3000 more in interest payments and a fee of £2750. I approached Woolwich guess what my new mortgage top up is in place im paying £320 less than they quoted but left my main mortgage at old rate so i can shorten my mortgage by over paying and even then im paying £70 per month less woolwich have even put in place insurances and mortgage protection for £180 per month less on the same policies with legal & General. This company is portraying it self it can save you money infact this has not emerged.
To date i have had no documentation back from this company even credit checked us without our permision and when asked to cancel mortgage and policies within hours still be harrassed by the relevant companies.

My opinion is stay clear of this company AWD Home Finance now Carrington Carr as this company should carry a GOVERMENT WEALTH WARNING"

Any fees have to be disclosed in the key facts illustration about the deal in question. Read that and it should tell you.
