    Hi all
Today I received my first default notice since starting my dmp last month. I've already spoken to RBS last month and they said as long as I kept up with the dnp payments I wouldn't hear from them. Should I contact them again or is this normal? Thanks

    Hi,
It's normal, no need to contact them.

    Well yea,

If your struggling at the moment, like the others have said, you could just stop paying for a few months.

Save up a few quid, work out your budget a bit better, than start again.
Debt collection process can take many months, even years, so you can't make your position much worse than it is already.

Original creditors don't (usually) take legal action, it's the DCA,'s that do that, eventually, and only if you ignore them.

You have lots of space here to sort this out so it works better for you in the future.

If you write and explain you are taking a 3/6 month break from payments due to affordability issues, nothing is likely to happen during that time.

    Thanks, sourcrates, you're a star:staradmin

I'm such a wimp that I have been panicking in case the sky falls on my head if I rock the boat now after almost 3 years of my DMP:o. It's been such a relief not to have the incessant phone calls from creditors and to just let SC make things run smoothly.

Just one more thing (as Lt. Columbo would say;)) should I contact SC and tell them what I need to do or negotiate directly with my creditors? Or both maybe?

Thanks for your time and patience:beer:

Yes, it would make sense to keep stepchange in the loop.

They will probebly say, contact us again in 6 months or whatever.

The one thing you must remember is that no one, creditor, court, prime minister, no one, can make you pay more than you can afford, no matter what may happen.

Once you have got your head around that, the world will be a much simpler place believe me !!

Not a wimp, it's just a wobble and everyone has them, it's just that you've done so well and been so strong for so long that it feels like the boats going down when in fact is just rocking in the wind....sorry carp analogy but that's all I can manage at this time of night.

If you are dropping payments, you need to talk to SC either in person or on the messaging service, or they'll chuck you off after a couple of missed payments, though if you choose to go self managed that's not a problem. SC will be ok with It, you just need to contact them, I've done it and I'm still with SC and nothing bad has happened except my DFD is extended. LI'd also recommend you still contact your creditors by mail or messaging, giving them the same information as SC, whatever version it is that you can't make this month's payment, and if you are not sure you'll make next month's either, but you will contact them again in xx amount of time.

If you are not sleeping with worry, maybe think about a chat with the GP to get your sleep back on track as being tired won't help your sense of perspective.

IT IS GOING TO BE OK :j
Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
    Estimated DFD August 2018 - 2031 - now 2027 :T

  • Sorry, here I am again with yet another question:o

I've been all over the SC website and my account pages and can't find anywhere that shows the recommended/maximum allowances for specific areas of a budget. I remember when I drew up my first one the woman who was working it out with me on the phone said my budgeted amounts in some catagories didn't seem high enough and more would be accepted if necessary.

Does anyone know if such a list exists either on SC's website or anywhere else please? I'd like to be better prepared by knowing the limits before I negotiate my next budget review;).

    As always, thanks a million:beer:

I received a letter today regarding my settlement offer to H.....X . They are requesting I and E (which hasn't changed since setting up the payment plan) and a list of creditors so that the DCA can confer with H.....X re the offer

I assume this is quite usual?

ETA I'm guessing this means the debt wasn't actually sold on
    LBM.....sometime in 2013 £27,056. 10 creditors
June 20.....£7,587.....3 creditors left 72% paid

£26,200 on interest only part of mortgage (July 16)...will chip away £17,103
    £49,200 repayment mortgage ( July 16) £37,764
  • Bit of advice, I have sent letters to my creditors to explain I am working with SC and have offered token payments. I have completed the income and expenditure form with SC. I can print off the paperwork which advises a DMP but should I send that back to SC now? I don't want to start my DMP until about May / June time so I can build an emergency fund. But not sure if I need to complete the paperwork and send back to SC and state when I want it to start or just hold off? All I have at present is he refernece number given when you have completed the expenses form. Thanks.

I didn't send my paperwork back until I was ready to start, also remember that your debts will increase pre start of dmp so you will need accurate figures from your statements for your paperwork when you are ready to start with sc paying the dmp.

    Hi CBC,

When i did my annual budget review I clicked on the My Review tab on the left side of the screen once you log into your DMP online account.
It then brings up all the different sections when you do your review. When I entered the amounts if I put in an amount that exceeded the maximum limit it came up in red by the box.
I managed to 'manipulate' my figures by going back and adjusting the figures to give a manageable monthly direct debit. I would always complete my review online and you can keep going back and amending the figures before you submit your final income and expenditure review.

I have looked on the SC website too and can't see any figures on there - does it come up if you were to complete another debtremedy tool?

Sorry I have not been of much help!!! Does you original paperwork have a copy of your income and expenditure form that you submitted when you set up your DMP? You could use that and write your figures dowm and work it all out manually before completing anything online.

Sorry - I feel I have just waffled and not really helped!!!!

Hopefully someone will come back with a much better response!!
