    Ditto
I would cut my losses, accept their offer and never purchase from them again.

Though, if you wanted to give it one last go, you could take the damaged bedding into a store, along with the reciept for the new bedding and make your complaint face to face with the manager.
Preferably when there are a lot of customers around.

It's surprising how receptive a manager can be amongst a crowd of customers ;)

It sounds like the screws were a chemi black finish which isn't really suitable for the purpose. It appears that the manufacturers wanted the screws to be black to go with the bed, but didn't want to pay to them black zinc plated (chemi black is far cheaper). If this is the case then the screws provided with the bed were unfit for purpose. And as they were provided as part of the bed it would make the bed unfit for purpose.

If I were you I would either accept the refund/replacement and the £25. If it was a replacement, then go for a different model. If it was a refund, then buy a bed from somewhere else. I know for a fact that there are sellers on ebay who sell exactly the same beds as Argos for just over half the price that Argos do.

I don't particularly think the OP is expecting too much here.
Different product but I bought some new pans (cast iron) that stated they were safe for a ceramic hob - they weren't as the hob looked like a skating rink after a weeks use - they refunded my money (no receipt, proof of age or condition of hob) and replaced the hob - no questions asked. The OP not only has a damaged bed but there is also associated damage caused by the product. It's not unreasonable to expect the bedding to be replaced IMHO
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!
  • Techno, were your items from Argos or from a similar sort of company? Yours appears to be an error in the description, an error which led you to purchase an item not meant to be used with the equipment you already had & which led to damage. That's different to buying something, then later saying it's caused damage to something else, damage you haven't proved was caused by the item rather than by your own error. :)

I'm not knocking the OP for wanting recompense, but I think that (a) expecting a company to meet the cost of replacements at a higher price than they sell goods met for the same purpose is risky in the extreme, especially when you buy the replacements & then send them the receipt without first obtaining their agreement, & (b) not being willing to let them collect the bed until they agree to replace the bedding could be seen as obstructive. Who knows, the OP may actually get what they want in the end, but so much is dependent on how you come across to people. :)
