An Argos bed has ruined my life (well almost)

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I have to get this off my chest.

I bought a black bedstead from Argos and to cut a long story short it has 'rusted' or something on the screws and ruined a duvet set, a matress protector and 2 fitted sheets.

I have been in touch with customer services who have offered to replace the bed and give me £25 refund for the damaged bedding as I do not still have my receipts for the damaged bedidng.

Obviously I have refused this and replaced the bedding (£80 to replace it all to the same standard) and sent in the receipts for the replacement bedding into Argos asking for a full refund.

What chance do you think that I have of getting my money back, any advise gratefully received.

Thanks
David

I have to say their current offer sounds more than reasonable to me. Do you have any photos of the damage? Not sure how screws manage to rust without being exposed to damp. Whereabouts was the screw located? Also unsure how every item of bedding came into contact with it!

I don't want to sound harsh, but maybe you should read some of the problems other people are going through in the Debt Free Wannabe sections. It may help to put your 'ruined life' into context.

I hope you get it sorted though!

That was a good offer - replacing it AND compensation.

They could have told you where to go considering you had no reciept or original packaging !

Sorry, I seem to be missing something here.
If it's the bed that has caused the damage, why have you refused a replacement and purchased £80 of bedding to go back on the same bed?

Surely that will get ruined to, if it's the bed at fault?

argos i dont find to tbe the best at giving free things.
when i was pregnant i orderd a nursery set for my baby, 3 months in advance and they didnt get it to me until 3 weeks before, then the screws for the cot were wrong and they had no others. i was a very stressed, eventually they gave me a brand new moses basket as they couldnt assure when the cot would be ready.
keep doing what your doing. i wouldnt say it has ruined your life though unless youve got rust marks on your face that wont come off lol:)

The screws (that attach the support slats that the matress sits on to the bed) seemed fine when being assembled but the black coating has come off after a few weeks, and in doing so, has left large rust coloured stains on the duvet cover, matress protector and sheets where they came into contact.

As for the term 'an Argos bed has ruined my life (well almost)', it's a figure of speech - don't judge me  :grouphug:

They just make me so mad, I had a perfectly good set of lovely bedding and with there refund I can't even afford to replace with Argos' cheapest bedding!
  • so argos offererd to replace your bed and give you £25 back (towards some bedding) even though you've got no reciepts ,and yet you've refused this and insted gone an bought £80 worth more bedding!?!?:rotfl:

How does the duvet get in contact with the slats? Unless you're using a very small mattress and a very large duvet?

As above and advice for the future, I think your pre-emptive buying of more bedding when you still had the problematic bed and therefore the risk of the new bedding becoming equally damaged was a bad idea.

Take the offer. If you had receipts and they still weren't honouring it, you'd at least have a reasonable excuse for not taking it. As it is Argos are trusting your word which they're not obliged to do.
