  • I'm on a role today! pasties & tarts went down a treat :)

Noticed dgd's soft play membership card runs out tomorrow so decided to take her there for a couple of hours ;) It's such a shame but we really didn't get our money's worth :( as a new soft play opened near us which is much nicer and dgd enjoys it more. Couldn't help thinking when we were at the one today that it is such a shame they have let it run down how they have. It's been in the area for donkeys years (since my kids were young) and if they don't do a refurb soon and match the other one they'll go out of business.

Went to Tescos and bought an 8 pack of fruitshoots. Expensive at £3 but will just save it for when we go to softplay and other places they sell them = saving of £6.62 ;) (they are £1.20 each to buy in the SP!)

Also picked up a lump of red glos cheese reduced to 91p from £3.04 so will grate & freeze.

Dgd gone down for a nap so going to put my feet up and read my book

Hi Bob - Yes, here's how to make cheesy lentil squares. It's a recipe I've been making for years & adapted from the old 'Crank's' vegetarian cookbook.
    You need:
    225g red lentils
    450ml water
    1 big onion
25g of butter or margarine or 1 tbsp of oil - whatever you've got, it doesn't matter.
2 tsp herbs of your choice - I like to use sage or rosemary & thyme, but use what you've got.
    100g cheddar cheese, grated.
    1 egg
    25g breadcrumbs
    salt & pepper to taste.

Thoroughly grease a shallow square baking tin, the sort you'd use for flapjacks or similar. Pre-heat oven to gas 5 (sorry I don't do electric ovens) Rinse the lentils & cook them in the measured water until soft & they've absorbed all the liquid. Meanwhile, chop the onion finely & cook in the butter or oil until transparent. When the lentils are ready, stir in the onion & all the other ingredients, seasoning well to taste. Transfer to your greased tin spreading it well into the corners. Bake it for about 30 mins. It should be quite golden but not dark brown on top. Cut into squares & serve hot or cold. We like it cold in packed lunches/picnics as it's very transportable & sustaining because I guess the protein/carb mixture in the lentils is quite slow release for energy..

    Hope this is helpful.

Definately! I will have a go and report back. In the end I made red lentil, carrot and sweet potato soup before which was really good. Thanks for the recipe inspiration .

    Hi everyone,

I've been AWOL for just over a week. The OH and I had a wonderfully relaxing camping trip last week. Only stayed two nights and we didn't leave the site, just sunbathed, read and cooked the food we'd brought with us on the little camping stove, it was bliss.

Then back to work and some unexpected payments meant I had to raid my £100 emergency savings. I'm justifying this as the alternative would have been putting it on my credit card.

Then I caught a stinking cold, only just feeling more myself but lacking energy still. I hate summer colds!

I did a car boot today and made £51.50 (£61.50 but the entrance fee was £10!). I hate doing car boots with a passion but I'm pleased with the outcome! I only have books and a handful of clothes left but these are still in my boot and going straight to the charity shop tomorrow.

We're going to treat ourselves and watch a film at the IMAX tonight (taking our own popcorn of course). With our cards it's £5 each. The rest of the pot is going in the bank :j

All meals from stores today. Need to make lunch for work tomorrow.

FPL checked, surveys still to do.

Things progressing very well with OH too...!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone

    Evening all :)
It sounds as though a good weekend is being had by all :) I am not feeling great at all (caught baby GD's latest cold :(), so little has been accomplished today :o Not looking forward to tonight, as it is making my asthma play up, and I suspect I will spend most of the night sitting up and trying not to keep coughing

I did clean up 2 boxes of the bits I bought auction yesterday, ready for my sales unit tomorrow

Also made a curry for supper (Hairy Bikers diet book). These recipes are a bit high in calories for me atm, but I am trying to encourage OH to lose some weight, as frankly, he needs to more than I do. He seems to be quite happy with their recipes, so when I make them I just have a small portion and hope for the best! It was really nice though (chicken jalfrezi) and easy to make :) It also used up some tomatoes that were getting squishy!

Nothing spent as I haven't been anywhere :T

BTW Ally, thanks for taking the trouble to research / post all those links. It is much appreciated.

Hope everyone has a nice evening :)

:grinheart Booked MOT online at National Tyres and AutoCare. Quoted DV273. Got it half price. AND if you go to https://www.national.co.uk and click on MOT and sign up for an MOT reminder email they send you a whole load of coupons for money off tyres, suspension, batteries, brakes etc through the post. You don't have to book an MOT to get these coupons and they're valid for months.
