Sat 11th/Sun 12th July - What Small DFW-style Things Will You Be Doing Today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Good morning DFW-Devotees,
Reluctantly hauled myself out of bed this morning before I fell asleep again. Off for a free ParkRun this morning.
Nillionaire Week 9:
:grinheart Check broadband data usage.
:grinheart Find something cheap or free to do today around the changeable weather.
:grinheart Look at the Freebies and Offers I posted in yesterday's forum.
:grinheart Read the news online, but only for a few minutes, newspaper's make me angry!
:grinheart Watch tv we recorded overnight.
:grinheart Opened a new tub of butter. Spread my bread with the butter that's stuck to the paper layer.
Good luck with your Devotions, Devotees.

Morning Ally
Thanks for the start. Good news about your wedding album being so reasonable as well. Enjoy Park Run.
Another bad night but OH is making coffee and bacon sandwiches so I can have a lie in. Horray!
Going to let the caffeine kick in and then come back with a list for the weekend.

Customer surveys on bottom till receipts, Aldi always has one and M&S/PO but local Tesco had one yesterday. Completed- never won yet, £100's vouches as prize.

Afternoon all.
Been up, done poultry and came back to bed, watching back to back cooking programmes. How much do the ingredients cost for Bfoot contes" USA recipes, Her vanilla essence habit alone must be £5 a day:eek: Then a touch of Nig in Italia, she can so be bothered with her white snazzy jacket and fabulousness, then back to UK with Lorraine who is so thin and toned she can not possibly be going to eat her peppermint cream!
Anyway, after my lazy morning I am going out for an exciting afternoon with a friend, having afternoon tea after a walk round posh gardens. Am very excited.
My next to last Mr T order came this morning for £25, I am from now on going to have to spend £40, sure it will be no problem!
Farm in crisis already re lamb price collapse, so this with Welsh office decision means even more fun for us:mad:
Have fun everyone doing nice stuff cheaply.

So MSE things so far today.
1) Went for a walk on route son picked a good handful of blackberries and ate them. There are loads more on the turn so that will provide some free fruit to the bottomless pit that is a 6 year olds fruit intake
2) Found 5p roadkill
3) Made sandwiches for lunch making sure the last few slices of the old loaf were eaten first. OH is bad for starting new loaves and leaving old slices to go stale.
4) Washed my hair and left it to dry in the sun
5) Boys are back on Netflix, watching Dragons. So free (or already paid for) entertainment
Not strictly money saving but very pleasant, our walk to the local riverside park meant we saw 3 different colours of dragon fly. A bright azure blue, grass hopper green and yellowy.. so watched them for a while. Noticed the horrible Hogsweed that has been in the news this week is growing in our riverbank so pointed those out as 'do not touch' to son. Watched a black lab splashing around and had a brief chat with some other people doing the same. Noticed cobnuts are growing, the birds have been pulling them off already. More to forage later in the year. Feel very relaxed for all that.
Leaving for work shortly. But should only be there till 5.30 on very light duties. Need to think up something for dinner. We have veg. Potatoes. Red Lentils. But no meat. Low on pasta....
Back later

Hi Weekend Money Savers,
Awoke to find that my post-flu energy levels had risen by about half a %, so decided to get up & about nice & early. Today's money saving efforts are not vast, but am keeping the faith:
*mr f has to work, therefore I have no wheels & will not be going out spending today.
*Watered & fed greenhouse veggies & outdoor tomatoes & courgettes.
*Finally got around to putting a colour on my yukky, depressing roots. Left hair to dry naturally to save a bit of electricity.
*Used some of our garlic crop to make garlic pickle. Never made it before. Contains LOADS of garlic plus Indian spices, cayenne pepper, etc, so I think it will be pretty tasty. Recipe says use it as a chutney, serve with curries or just spread thinly on toast. I expect mr f will be piling it onto his toast as though it's going out of fashion then give me the sad eye because there's none left.
*Elevenses denied to cat. He ate all his breakfast, so I'm afraid the rule is that it's just biscuits now until dinner time.
*Did a couple of surveys, but there are not many about at the weekend, & I wasn't really in the mood. Toluna up to over 14,000 points already, though, & I only cashed them in last week, so I must keep the momentum going.
*Do a bit more of my family history project. I'm paying two online subscriptions for precisely as long as it takes to get this finished, so I need to be making regular use of them.
*Continue knitting project. By my calculation, I have 44 more rows to go then it has to be washed & stretched. Something new to wear at the end of it all, which will be nice.
*Paid a 50p piece into my sealed pot. Naturally as soon as I decided my sealed pot would contain only 50ps, I barely seem to get any. Typical!
OK, well have a good weekend all,

Bob - Cheesy lentil squares? They are yum. Good cold in lunch boxes/picnics too.

Maria - Bad news about the fall in lamb prices. It always winds us up that we seem to find it hard to find British lamb. We refuse to buy New Zealand lamb.....I'm sure it's very nice, but why would we endorse all those polluting food miles flying it here when we can support our own UK farmers??!! We have both been in situations in the supermarket where we've actually changed our menu on the hoof because the only lamb available is New Zealand. I feel the same about Danish bacon. We have a big pig industry in the UK & should be supporting it. Our pig welfare standards are higher here too, because I understand that the Danes use farrowing crates & other practices which are outlawed here. I probably need to look into buying a British lamb box or half lamb box direct from the farm, so I can freeze it. Where food production is concerned, this country seems to have gone quite mad. Yes, I'm moaning again.
