Fog light in the sun

I saw some complete walley this afternoon with fog lights on on bright sunshine.
Why?
Because they are knobs.
It really is that simple. They are either knobs because they don't know they have them on in daylight or knobs because they do know they have them on in daylight.
Either way, they are knobs.
It's all in the name foglights are for use in fog (or where visibility is less than 100yd [just for the pedants]).Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -
What gets me more are those idiots that drive around at night with sidelights and front fogs on, what's wrong with using headlights? Personally, I'd like to see manufacturers rig fog light switches so that the fronts will only come on if the rears are on as no-one thinks driving around with rear fogs on is cool, it's the kind of thing doddery old farts do when they turn the fogs on for a little bit of mist a week earlier and forget to turn them off.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

I agree - the front and rear fogs should also be rigged to reset to a default 'off' position when the ignition is switched off.0 -

They had a separate switch and no indication inside they were on. Weather can change quickly as it had. It was an Audi Coupe GT.
Yes, the warning light is only for the rear fog lights on those. Back in the days of "proper" switches where you can leave them on, rather than latching relays that reset when you turn the ignition off.
I used to get very annoyed by other people with fog lights on, nowadays it's more the norm than the exception.0 -
There are times where having lights on in bright sun can be helpful, which is why they have invented daylight running lights after a few other attempts such as dim-dipped of 15-20 years ago. My test would be if I cannot see cars behind readily due to the light then it is worth considering using dipped headlights to help oncoming cars.
I'm not bothered by cars with lights on all the time, I am only bothered by badly adjusted lights or the wrong use of fog lights which are not suitable for general use due to the angle and likelihood of dazzling.0 -
Don't forget that all VW brands (VW, SEAT, Skoda etc) have that feature whereby the fog light comes on when turning or reversing.0

Yes but only briefly, unless you are going round in circles or driving everywhere in reverse.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
