9 months of BT Openreach / SKY Hell....

I need help.....

I switched to Sky Fibre around August last year. Since October last year I have had static phone interference. Hear an example of this on YouTube by searching for 'Phone Static Hell with BT Openreach'.

The issue is not constant. It comes and goes.

To date Sky have sent 16 BT Openreach engineers to the property. They say they have tried everything. Not one engineer has been here while the problem was current.

My next door neighbour also has the same problem but he is with BT and not Sky. He was told by a BT engineer that the issue was corroded copper in a nearby phone cabinet. I have been told by BT that this OK.

I am currently in a state of stalemate. Sky say they cannot do anymore and want to release me from the contract, to get rid of me basically. If I switch to BT, I pay double the cost of everything AND Openreach are still the ones who will be trying to fix it.

There appears to be no Ombudsman and I cannot contact Openreach directly. I really need help from BBC Watchdog but they are currently closed.

Can anyone help please?

This isn't going to help you much but ...

OFCOM is the regulator, but won't intervene in individual complaints. There are two ombudsman service providers for communications:

    http://www.ombudsman-services.org/communications.html
    http://www.cisas.org.uk/

it is unlikely they will intervene if Sky have offered to release you from your contract, as you already have a resolution to your dispute with Sky.

You are not a customer of Openreach, Sky are, so it is up to Sky to pursue this on your behalf. There is no reason why Openreach would or should talk to you.

There are many problems with the way Openreach deal with faults, precisely because it can lead to situations like this, or the one I face, but it needs OFCOM to force a change.

You can still write a letter to Ofcom, but as onomatopoeia99 mentioned, they won't investigate your particular complaint.

However, Ofcom should take your comments on board for their current Strategic Review. See http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/telecoms/policy/digital-comms-review/ for information on this.

A few years back, myself and a neighbour had problems with static and then crosstalk; Sky were very good about owning the issue, and it turned out that the BT-owned cables had decayed and got wet, so they were replaced (by BT).
