Current or 2017, no matter, it'll be a new low emission car, every 12 months.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Well, that theory doesn't seem to have panned out over the 15 yrs of the current scheme, and the new one gives far less incentive...0

they're basically just trying to get people buy a new car every 12 months
They're really not, because they're charging the most VED in the first year, you could argue they're doing the opposite! They want most of us driving tiny low emission cars
Not under the new 2017 system, they'll cost the same to tax as others.(Getting rid of CO2 bands) Why would a government purposefully do that?
Because manufacturers did a great job of getting the emissions down, and we bought their cars. Now loads of people are driving around in low/no tax brackets, and the Chancellor described this system as unsustainable. These low emission cars likely use less fuel too, and cost less to insure, so less tax there too. Translation - we need you to pay!So your saying that people aren't going to buy a new car to avoid paying the high VED the second year
£140 isn't high, depending on where you're coming from! How on earth do you think it's economical to spend thousands on a new car each year to avoid £140?!!Current or 2017, no matter, it'll be a new low emission car, every 12 months.
Costing thousands, instead of £140. Nope!0 -
Tories pay lip service to the environment, except for niche areas such as domestic PV subsidies where it can yield them votes. I recall Osborne being in favour of an increase in the speed limit to 80mph because it would grow the economy!0

It would be about time. Cars are far safer now, don't require anywhere near the braking distance they used to need.0 -

The environment is BIG business, all they have interest in is protecting their friends (and their own) investments in the environment and renewable energies sectors.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The environment is seen as an issue for another generation. Nobody will stand up and make significant changes to lifestyles until they absolutely have to...and by then it will probably be too late!0 -
It's one of the craziest things I've ever seen!!
Who would spend thousands on brand new cars to avoid £140 of tax.
If we can find someone that thick, I have plenty of things I'd like to flog them... :T0 -

Not been on this board long have you :rotfl:
Have a good read through the motoring section and there will be pages and pages of threads where people want a new car because the tax is lower or the manufacturers figures say it will do 1mpg more than their current car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
