Budget Changes for Motoring
Just seen on BBC that 2 main changes affect motoring
1) VED changing for new cars - not seen details of levels or how it affects older cars
2) MOTs for cars over 4 years not the 3 at the moment
Can't really comment on 1 but 2 seems a crazy idea. Surely MOT should be mileage based not 4 years when a car could have done 150,000 miles by then.

Here in Northern Ireland its four years and every year thereafter.
Very true: re mileage though.0 -
i heard it was 3 new bands current cars unaffectedWhat goes around-comes around0

He should have abolished VED and put it on fuel.
Gas guzzlers pay more
Frugal cars pay less.
The little old lady with het Automatic 12 year old car who only does 1000 miles a year can pay more than someone travelling 50,000 miles a year.
Surely the "green" option is polluter pays, higher user will be a high polluter at even at lower emissions.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Also announced 'regulation' of claims management companies. About time too with their overpriced hire cars and phantom whiplash nonsense.0

From 2017 all new cars will be three bands.
- ZEV - £0
- "Normal" - £150ish - "95% of all cars
- "Premium" - no figure announced.
Older cars unchanged.
ALL VED receipts to be hypothecated for a "road fund" - to go to building new roads and maintaining existing ones.0 -
i agree about the road fund about time-still i will be paying more than most people but cant complain i bought the carWhat goes around-comes around0

I cant find a link for the MOT after 4 years, did it mention when this comes into affect?
**edit**
Found it.
We will consult on extending the deadline for new cars and motorbikes to have their first MOT test from 3 years to 4 years, which would save motorists over £100m a year.
So I guess it'll be a year or two before we see any change, and I do have an MOT in September!!0 -
Oh, I'm sure it'll still annoy the pedants.
Yep, first MOT will be 4yrs - still every year thereafter. European minimum is 4yrs/every 2yrs, anything more frequent than that is the UK's choice.
Fuel duty remains frozen.0 -
It'll also be open season on those tax dodging lycra louts, clogging up the roads and not contributing to their maintenance.:D0
