Having been there rose, there comes a point when caring for someone with such ill health there are hard choices to be made and it's not for everyone doing what I did and putting your whole life on hold. There is a point when people do need 24/7 care and your family need to realise there may be no other choice than for her to be in the best place for her which may not be at home.

I wish you all the best whatever choices are made. xx

Yes I agree and I remember how hard it was for you with your Mum. I didnt want Mum to have the op but no one listened and even Mum now says she wishes she had not had it. I have already spent over 5 years doing it and although I care for my Mum I have done my share.

And rose is there any possibility your mum may have a UTI if she is more confused? Especially with the hotter weather if she has not been drinking enough after her op to flush things through. Just a thought but I am sure hospital will pick up on anything like that.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Hope she is soon feeling better and stay strong Rose, you have to think about yourself too.

It may well be she has. She is a bit prone to them and I know UTI's and deyhration can make them confused. I will text my sister and ask her to get them to check. She will love that!!!

Those last few weeks rose were the hardest of my life when I was told she had stabilised and needed to either go home or into care and if I am honest I am not sure I had the strength to give her the best of care emotionally. Practically I was fine but when she was in the hospice I could spend quality time with her which when you are dealing with it all you are drained beyond belief. I think it was around 5 years I cared for my mum in total.

For everyone especially your mum it would be best if decisions are made now before it is too late. Sorry if sounding blunt, but it won't get any easier. xx

I dont think for one minute anyone will agree to that ( especially older sis ) as they seem to think that its a terrible betrayal of my Mum. Thats why I think drastic action on my part is called for.

Hi rose, im afraid uhave to tell them if they think its s betrayal then they better start doing their fair share of looking after ur mum, personally i think ignoring her & leaving u to deal with it is more ofa betrayal!!!! U need to say it & stick to it or just move as u are planning. Not easy either way, i pray u find the strength & good luck👍 xx

I agree with this. It seems like they think you will just keep doing it for them and pick up their slack. Unless they agree and stick to a FAIR rota, but even then it does sound like your options are getting less and it is going down the route to a home.

When my grandad died my nanna spent a few years living a month a time with each of her children and their families. She decide she was going to live with us in our 2 bedroom house. My dad said no. She eventually had to go to a sheltered housing thing.

She loved she had friends her own age, the had loads of trips planned, the could community meals or eat in their apartment. Hairdresser called around every few weeks. She still had her independence but someone was there to check/monitor them at all times.

You are quite right its the emotional strain thats the worst. We have managed to do the Power of Attorney but now I think I made a mistake being made joint POA with my younger sister and she obviously doesnt care about my Mum at all.
