We've had people shake there heads as we get out the car but soon shut up when we get the wheelchair out so I know what you mean and if she had a leg missing people can see that:o

That's terrible nerf. But it just goes to show how quick people are to judge without knowing someone's full circumstances. A lot of that going on the past couple of days. Very sad.

I'm certainly not going to interrogate anyone in the unfortunate circumstance of needing to claim any kind of benefit. I have been in receipt of JSA twice in my life. It's not a pleasant experience to admit you need help (for whatever reason) and is far from the laugh riot those who have never had to rely on state assistance think it is. So if you've got enough cash left for a beer at the end of the week to toast your !!!!!! fortune, good for you. You can look forward to being looked down upon for daring to sip it by those who have work.
    Debt free 6th December 2014 :)

    Me too.

Our extension cost £23 k - 2 storey and it took us 25 years to pay the extended mortgage off, OH starting some mornings before 7, often fielding phone calls from work at 10 at night, some weekends, on call every 3 weeks, working away from home for weeks and months at a time when kids were littler.
Cars - yes we had an Espace paid for with a bank loan much needed with 3 kids, extensive school and social life. The car we have now cost £9 k after the part ex - paid for from savings - no more debt, bank loans or mortgage for us.

Benefits - never qualified for any, OH always earned very slightly too much - no child tax credits, no free child care, no free school meals or uniform - even when OH was on extended sick leave

Hard life, no helping hand from parents or the state, a few financial messes but we got through and out the other side, kids now grown up, well educated and with a good work ethic, happy, healthy and all working :j

Love you mhoc, you should be really proud of yourself and your family x

I bet I get slated but I feel this :(

I have had OH bills from the priory through recently. Yes I could have left him to rot in the local MHU and get kept safe and not helped :( but I couldn't.

I live a luxurious life? I can't have him here now because I want my children to have a semi? normal life. But I'm committed to looking after him and I think I always will be. So now I'm keeping our 2 households on the same money as I was keeping one on before. My savings are all but depleted........a whole future (of mine.....and his life time of working hard to save for the future) gone :( and I'm now having to consider working 12 hour days again to make up the shortfall. So the kids can go on and do what I had the chance to :rotfl:

Yes I'm really priveliged. There are no breadlines in sight because quite honestly I'd need to be on my !!!! with my hands tied behind back to be in a position to say I can't feed my children.

And for the record... my rant about benefits was not intended to offend people who get disability benefits that are genuinely entitled to them or their children. Anyone who knows me well enough will know what I meant
