You have been busy, well done. I have a purse full of vouchers and nothing in my freezer! Need to get spending I think.

But I do have a garage full of crisps that expire in a week or so!!

The digs don't bothe me Danes, anyone who knows me in real life will know my skin is ticker than that. All I will say is that the comments about how I choose to educate my children are saddening and it's very surprising to find the people who have made those comments. I have never talked about my education choices here. it was mentioned a while back and I answered it. My children have offended no one here and the comments about private schooling and exotic holidays are sad. If anyone thinks I'm having a party here, they're welcome to come and take over for a day or 2.

As for the sad comments and digs from people I thought were my friends.......what can I say?

I might not have put my point across well but I stand by it. I give to charity. I give excess food and other stuff to homeless charities. What I don't feel comfortable with is giving them the stuff that I would only buy to line my own pockets. And I stand by my take on foodbanks. They are a big sticking plaster that yes, do help a lot of people in poverty, but a big majority of those people would be better served by being educated in how to better spend what they do have.

I know there is real poverty out there and that shouldn't be ignored. There is also a sense of entitlement though and I've saw first hand this week how much so.

I visited a project in another area set up to tackle child poverty. I sat in on a session designed to help people budget better. The lady taking the session was very good.....very straight talking. She asked the group to put forward what their biggest financial worries were......what they were struggling with. By far in the group was the fact that their LEA had just scrapped financial assistance to help with school uniforms and they didn't to know how they'd afford to buy it in the coming weeks. Something I and anyone with children can identify with.
She had them all sit down and go on the net and price up their idea of what uniform they needed for one child. No restrictions.....they could go to primark, Asda. tesco m&s,...wherever. The results ranged from just under £100 to over £250. She then asked them all to get their phones out and put a post it on with either how much the phone cost to buy plus top ups or how much contract they were paying.

There was only one phone in the room worth less than £300 and one was even paying a contract of £42  a month. She didn't say a lot after that because the way shed delivered the session made it clear that these people could in fact afford to clothe their children.

Most of them got it, some didn't. One lad in particular took offence at the fact he should downgrade his phone because the council wouldn't pay for uniforms anymore.

I'm not for a minute saying any of these people are selfish or thoughtless. The lack of education means poor lifestyle choices. It's just my opinion that funding education for people who haven't had it is more effective than throwing food at them because they think they can't afford it.

FC not sure why you quoted my post, but it was just a general comment. Wasn't aimed at you! I haven't been on here for days so have no idea what is going on!

We were out for dinner last night because them 2 boys came home from school with reports that brought tears to my eyes :o they were absolutely brilliant. Worth every single bit of effort that's been given to them :)

I feel that both have had a tough year with other kids (so called friends) but both come out the other side and it has made them stronger. it's probably me that has suffered more with worry. :(

Thanks for that FC - now I see exactly where you are coming from with your comments. I think we've all met people who are moaning about how little they get and who have the latest phones, the most expensive Sky TV at full price, the biggest TV imaginable, kids with iphones stuck to their ears etc. etc.

I've also seen the aforementioned people in supermarkets and especially Iceland buying copious amounts of pizza, burgers, chips, ice cream and everything bad for you instead of meat and frozen veggies, fruit etc.

Yes, people do need educating. They could possibly get this from their large TV except that the programs they show on there for cutting down people's spends are pretty useless as I know nearly everyone on here could come up with much better examples on how to live frugally.

"Stuff I would only buy to line my own pockets" - I just don't agree with this bit. I think people are just being Savvy and it enables those that may not be able to afford to give out of their limited budget to give something. Surely that's FAR better than giving nothing, especially when the dreaded T's add 30% of given stuffs value on top? After all there isn't an education box! Maybe there should be?

My DD report due on Monday. To be fair she has sailed into the sixth form college she wanted. She's also on my heels with the fact she is 17 very soon and has driving lessons all priced up :o

You will have double trouble when you get to that stage  start saving now!

Oh don't! Have quite a way to go, both are only 9! It's the costs of the prom that scares me! A lady at work has just paid £550 for her DD dress, no way!
