Ah, didn't realise that about flubenvet doses. When we've used it, I've bought the powder and mixed it with food which was a pain in the bum! One of the reasons I checked with the testing kit this time.

This is the one I used (although I remember it being a bit cheaper so maybe I bought it from someone else!) It was definitely a chicken vet one though

Darn it, the link won't paste!! It's the British Hen Welfare Trust worm testing kit anyway, £14 but as I say, I think I remember paying £10 ish (I bought three so I'd have them for next time)

Hi cheery, I am often awake at silly-o-clock so don't have a reasonable excuse to give, to be honest 🤣

With regards to the powdered Flubervent, it is easier if you mix some oil in with the hens feeding pellets and then add the powder carefully to that mix. That way it isn't difficult to use, apparently.  Not used it myself though so that information is not through experience.

We give our girls Verm-x every 6 months or thereabouts. We use it as it's herbal and you do not need to withdraw the eggs when you have given them it. When I first kept hens I used to give them it every 3 months but changed to every 6 months ages ago now.  It is in the form of tiny little herbal pellets, smaller than their feed pellets and they will happily gobble it up along with their breakfast pellets of a morning.. I always give it to them at breakfast because they are hungrier when they get up in the morning so more likely to eat it.

If you worm hens with Flubervent in their pellets from what I remember you can still eat the eggs but if a vet has to prescribe Flubervent (Flubendazole) a much higher dose will be given than what is in their commercial feed so you must withdraw the eggs for at least 7 days.

If I remember correctly I don't think the worm testing kits pick up Tapeworms, other types of horrible worms are picked up in the testing but not Tapeworms.

Bummer! We have worms! I posted a picture on a facebook group and they all went mad telling me that there are tape worm eggs in the poo. Hubby reluctant to do a vets visit due to price and wants to try standard wormer first. This is all new to us. Can only get 20kg with delivery this week which is a pain as I only have 3 birds!

    Hi RebekahR

Unfortunately, standard wormers are a preventative measure and won't get rid of worms if your girls already have them. Are you sure your girls have Tapeworms and not other worms like Gape or Roundworms? Have a look at the following link which will help to distinguish which worms they have. I'm not saying the guys on Facebook are wrong but best to check for yourself in the following link. If they do have Tapeworms you will need to see a vet as they will be able to prescribe medication for your girls to get rid of them.
    https://www.bhwt.org.uk/hen-health/health-problems/worms/

Maybe you could show your local vet the picture you put on Facebook of the worm eggs and see if they will prescribe medication for your girls?

As a preventative, you can get a product like Verm-x to use. There are various ones available that you can purchase in most good pet shops or widely available online.

You can also buy poultry pellet feed that has Fluebervent in it. Is that the product you mention that you can only get 20kg of? If so that is a preventative and not a treatment.

The link below has a fair bit of information on different poultry worms and details of the wormers you can buy. Worth a look at if you haven't seen it already.

Something like this would be very useful especially as they are confined to their run at the moment. This is a product that is sprinkled in their house and on the ground and claims it will kill worms of all stages.

Wow thats all very helpful!! Thank you! I've got flubvet coming tomorrow and have ordered a different sanitiser as I have quill which isn't very good for worms. Lots to learn!

    Hi Rebekah

These pics will help you compare the worms in their droppings. Yukky pics but needs must I guess 🤔

Large Roundworms in droppings actually look like worms.  You will need to scroll down in the link to see the picture of them in the droppings.

I am glad that you have Flubenvet coming tomorrow, that's good and nice and quick too.  If it is in powder form follow what I put in Cheerys post yesterday about using veg or olive oil as it will make it easier to mix and give to them.

Please do let us know how you get on.

    All the best

Thank you. I'm still none the wiser tbh as none of them look like what we have! All I see is round white eggs really. Here's a pic. Flub arrived today (late in the day) so will get them on it tomorrow.

    Hi

The testing kit is a good idea as it is a little hard to tell, isn't it? Cheery mentioned that she had bought testing kits before but couldn't get the link on the thread for you.

Looking at your picture I would say it is Tapeworm although I could be wrong. Definitely get them all on the feed with Flubenvet in it and I wouldn't give them anything else at all to eat for a whole week to make sure they eat enough of the food with flubenvet in.

I thought Flubenvet doesn't treat tape worm?

It doesn't work on Tapeworm but definitely worth giving the Flubenvet a go as better than nothing at this stage. I managed to get a closeup of your picture and it is still hard to tell what it is.  My guess is Tapeworm from the picture although I could be wrong.  It would be better if we could see it in real life on here to get a much clearer look.

The only images I've managed to see online of chicken poop with Roundworm actually have small worms in it where your picture doesn't from what I can tell.
