No sign this morning sadly 😢😢 I think we have to accept she's gone, and we won't know what happened 😢😢😢 Mr Cheery is beside himself.
Leaving aside the fact that they shouldn't have been out at the minute anyway... 🙄 we always knew having free range hens might mean something like this would happen at some point, but that doesn't make it any easier 😕
The rest of them will be confined to their run til the end of their lives if I have anything to do with it, and I'm not having any more when this lot have gone 😕2 -

Aww, Cheery how very sad 😢😢😢
You have certainly done the best you could in looking for her under the circumstances. Unfortunately because of the time of year and the darker evenings it gives little time to search for her especially after finishing work and having the journey home too.
Lots of love

Hi all,
Hope you and your feathered friends are all doing ok.
Still no sign of Bunty sadly. I think we'll get to the weekend and then have a little memorial service for her. It still feels a bit unreal at the minute.
The others seem OK. We got back at 10pm last night went to shut the door on the hen house, and Bonnie came out in the torchlight 🙄 Daft thing. She was VERY sleepy and I just ushered her straight back in. They don't usually do that, maybe she's just disorientated after the loss of her best buddy Bunty?
Today we just went to gtop up the food and there was blood smeared down the side of one of the food containers 😮 How?? The answer was swiftly found when we noticed blood on another food container too - Budgie's comb had been pecked and was bleeding 🙄 Pesky creatures. Hers is still rather floppy, whereas Poppy and Sunshine's have firmed up a lot more after being rescued. Fortunately she was easy to pick up, and with the aid of a piece of cardboard, managed to get a bit of purple spray on it without getting it in her eyes. Hopefully that will help it heal and stop the pecking.
What a pesky bunch.
Right now I'm feeling like I won't have any more after we lose this lot 🙄 We get far too attached and it's so distressing when things go wrong. But then how do you get to the point wh÷re you have none? I wouldn't want to have a solitary hen, but also wouldn't want to give the last one away... clearly we're just going to have to keep topping up endlessly until we both pop our clogs 🙄2 -
I'm sorry to hear about Bunty. It's understandable that you feel like that. They do become part of the family.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2003

Cheery.... Sorry there is still no sign of Bunty, bless her. Poor little Budgie and her comb. At least you have now treated it and it should start to heal pretty quickly especially with the purple spray on it. That will put them off pecking it again, whoever it was doing the pecking. As you say, pesky creatures. You've definitely had a bit of a rough week with them (((hugs)))
Starnac.... You are right they do become part of the family. Some of mine are like having little dogs, honestly, they follow me everywhere and are close to my ankles when I am pottering about here. They are super funny little things.
It is such a shame they are still going through chicken lockdown as I had great plans for mine to be thoroughly weeding my allotment area during the winter months and having it cleared for me ready to start planting again 🤣🤣🤣 I've been digging areas of weeds and tufts of grass up myself and tipping bucket fulls in their enclosure to keep them occupied. It's like having a dog and barking yourself around here right now 🤣🤣🤣
My Hoppy is not quite herself this year, bless her. There is nothing wrong with her from what I can tell so I'm guessing it is more age-related, perhaps. She is an old girl now and sometimes likes to have a very long lay in of a morning. Sometimes she doesn't get out of bed until lunchtime. I'm not concerned as she looks healthy, her appetite is still good and her weight is good too. We think it is because we give her extra shavings to sleep on now she is getting older and that's why she doesn't want to get up in the morning. Honestly, I have never known a more pampered duck, bless her, we love her dearly.
Edwink x

A lot of sadness around at the moment for chicken lovers ... I found an article in the Guardian that's a bit of fun, and has pictures to prove it, plus a happy ending: ‘Nervous’ wandering chicken caught at US Pentagon security checkpoint | Birds | The Guardian2023: the year I get to buy a car2

Hello! I am a relatively new chicken keeper. Only had them since August. We are team Omlet so the set up was very expensive! But the pay off is worth it for the easy cleaning. We have 3 called Speckledy (I wonder why ;-)), Peachy who is a warren and peckers who is a bluebell.
