How is the implant done? By large bore injection?
No idea how it's done Pyxis, I didn't think to ask - I just asked where it was (in the breast tissue apparently). I assume it was some kind of injection though - it only took a few minutes (obviously we were waiting in the car park).Β

Glad you've had a good experience with the same breed edwink! Mr Cheery likes the standard 'orange triangle' type of hen, but I wanted something different since we weren't going with rescues this time.Β

It looks like there's punch (don't know the medical name for it) which is put under the skin and then a syringe is inserted through the punch to administer the implant.

    interesting!Β

    Getting close now!Β

Mr Cheery has finished the roof, and today has taken everything out of the run (including the hen house) for a good clean and switch around. Thought you might like to see some pictures of our set up 😊

This is the run - about 8ft high, 12ft long, 8ft wide. Fully covered with quarter inch mesh all over (including roof and a skirt round the ground too). Now has a corrugated tin roof as well.

It's quite scruffy and not exactly out of Country Living magazine but it's safe and weatherproof (well, weatherproof enough).Β

The back and one side are made of old stable doors, and the other two sides have windows at ground level as this is quite a windy spot. There's a small internal roof at the back - we had extra temporary internal roof which we've now taken out although Mr Cheery is insisting on putting some back in to stop wind blowing directly into the coop (this is an ongoing squabble - the way we had it before meant I had to crawl on hands and knees to clean out the house but I'm assured it will be different after today...)

This is looking in from the door now everything has been removed

And this is standing at the far end, looking back towards the door. We've built them a little platform which they love to stand on and watch the car coming down the drive if they've been shut in for a while

I've given the house a good scrub and it's now drying in the sunshine. Mr Cheery is going to drill some more ventilation holes - the existing ones are small (we were rather paranoid after that stoat got in through our original ventilation slot so these drill holes covered in mesh).Β

I'll take some more pictures once everything is back in. Going back inside to get on with a bit more work now while it's so warm out here!
