Thanks edwink, that sounds rather like when we introduced our last new ladies. They did all hang around together some of the time, but there were definitely old and new factions a lot of the time...

Not sure which day yet - they said they'd ring me over the weekend to take payment and arrange collection. 

Mr Cheery is up fixing the roof on the chicken run as we speak!

Right, new chickens paid for  - we are collecting on Saturday so Pyxis you may (if you wish, of course), resume your countdown - it's the same day we were collecting the others so no need for a recount! 😂

Rescues are cancelled - I'm a bit sad but they had a waiting list so it does mean someone else will get some beaky friends now 💜

 Yay, more hens!  How "Cheery" is that news on our hen thread? Very I say and most exciting 😁

You didn't say how many you were getting Cheery.

We're having three. We were only going to have two rescues, but as these will probably end up being our longer term core flock, we're going for three - which will mean 6 in total, well outnumbered! 😮😂

Going to ring the vet again about Bessie tomorrow though. We've finished the antibiotics, and she's been on an increased dose of diuretics since Thursday, but she's swelling up again. She's still fine in herself, eating etc, but obviously can't just let the fluid collect indefinitely. We'll see.

And Rusty's limping now as well 🙄 Honestly they're a right bunch of trouble. She doesn't seem that bothered so just assuming she's jumped off something awkwardly and it'll mend by itself. Blithering chickens!

Aww, poor Bessie, bless her.  As you say though she is still fine in herself and eating so that's good but not good about the fluid building up again. What a worry! 

I've had many a hen here that has limped due to jumping off of something and landing with a bit of a thud.  It can be quite comical with hens that limp though because if you were to go near them with some treats they soon forget about limping, bless 'em.  Not all of them of course but definitely some of mine have.  When hens free-range like yours and mine do they end up jumping off of all manner of objects so are more prone to hurting themselves and therefore end up limping for a few days or so.  I always think of hens as the "Landrovers" of the poultry world whereas ducks are downright clumsy.  So it always surprises me if a hen really does hurt herself climbing somewhere and maybe jumping off awkwardly.  At the end of the day Cheery they are just complete and utter menaces 🤣🤣🤣
